Hy guys,

Has anyone had a Dynaflite Butterfly??
dynaflite Piece o Cake?
Looks like a good lazy flyer for calm days.
Are they any good?

My son solo'ed on one. Just don't try to stay up too long on a single
Battery charge...
We had a .25 on it, and it climbed like an unlimited FF gasser at high
throttle. At 1/4 throttle, it would still climb!
Easy to land too..

Test flew a Butterfly years ago for a new fellow. It is what it is, a big slow
docile plane, it had a power pod on it but I do not remember what size engine.
I don`t remember anything standing out off hand, that would make me say that it
is not a plane to build and fly. If thats what your looking for I`d say go for
it and enjoy. rick markel

I taught myself to fly using the Butterfly and an OS .15. It's definitely a
calm weather/light breeze plane. Make sure the idle is slow, or it will
float forever on landing approach. Very easy to build and fly.

Both are very nice, slow-flying planes. If you get an older kit, you might
have a little trouble, 'cause the plans and parts don't exactly match
sometimes. I understand the new kits are much better.

Go with a small 4 stroke on the Butterfly, you can not get a better lazy
late afternoon flyer!!

I learned how to fly with a Butterfly more than a decade ago. Had an
Irvine .20. My first flight on it with the club instructor was on a
fairly breezy day - I'd say atleast a steady 10mph wind, gusting to maybe
15?

I remember it flying "backwards" when pointed into the wind at low
throttle. Landing took a while to get used to since it need so little
speed to touch down and even a small bounce seemed to toss it back in the
air for another 10-15 foot glide.

Haven't flown it in ages but recently put an OS20 in it after the Irvine
developed some really interesting reliability problems.

You might also consider trying what I did: add ailerons and reduce the
dihedral. Then you can do funky things like slow rolls and inverted low
passes. Knife edge still isn't spectacular though. :-)

Have both But the Piece o Cake in not finished yet
going to put a throttled Novell .061 on it should be a
nice plane. My Butterfly has a old Fox .15 and is a lot of fun.
The kits are good with good plans and instructions.
Going to build another Butterfly when I get time
my put a bigger engine on it.

Xfooey,
I built and flew a Butterfly many years ago. The one thing I remember was
the metal wing support would bend in a loop. But it was a fun first or second
plane. CW

I've had 3 Butterfly's and LOVE them to death. They are great slow
fliers---perfect on hot days when the thermals are out.
If you build one, reinforce the horizontal stab where it meets the fuse.

It's a great plane!!!!
