I would like to know about the good, the bad, and if true, the ugly.
I am a fan of the ASP.46 engines. They are extremely powerful
and are easy to break-in, set up and they last a reasonable amount of
time if you use a little after run oil at the end of the day. Also be
sure your fuel has at least a little castor oil included.
Mine start easily by hand and are very reliable. The engine is
light and it runs fairly smooth. What else could you want in an engine?
Good luck in making your decision. You might also consider a
MECOA .40 or .46. They are winners too and they cost even less than an
ASP. Also, the MECOA engines come with a very quiet muffler that has a
removable baffle (still quiet without the baffle).
Enjoy!

I've had two of these engines (still have one) and neither has given me
any real problems. (leaky needle valve O rings...twice) They seem a little
trickier to adjust than some, but run great when you get them setup.
However, I think the current award winner in the price/performance battle
is the Thunder Tiger Pro .46. Three years warranty and opposed to ASP's
one year. They run great.

ASP (or at least the importers MacGregor in the UK) have switched to the
new GMS2000 design. Nothing wrong with ASP - I have many happy customers
- you either love 'em or hate 'em. Good value for money - figure on them
lasting you about 2 years. You gets what you pay for.

Three things may contribute to the longevity of my ASP .46.
1)I use 3in1 oil for after-run.
2)I've only used 10x6 props (mostly APC)
3)I've used a fuel filter and an air filter religiously
since the plane came off the workbench <the first time> :-).
Mabey I've just been lucky, but I'll more than likely purchase
another ASP .46 if mine died tomorrow. However I'm not so
naive as to be blindly loyal so any feedback on problems
with these engines would be considered.

Glad to hear that you're not loyal to a piece of hardware. =:-)
It will never return your loyalty. Save that for people.
Hey....If a piece of equipment lets me down, it's outta here!
Glad you have found a motor you're satisfied with. That's all that's
necessary! I could never be satisfied with the ASP's I have seen, but
then I'm picky. And that's my fault. If I weren't so picky, I would be
happier in this hobby, and wouldn't spend as much money!
More power to you!
