I just finished the Tamecat F-14 R/C Trainer. I am looking for anyone who
has alread built and flown this plane that might give me some feedback on
performace or trim issues (CG etc.) before I fly mine.

Uhhh, have you flown before? If not, I urge you to get some help
flying it. I don't have any specific advise for this plane, but help
is needed for all first time flyers.

Someone had one at our field a couple of weeks ago. It seemed to fly well,
but he ended up modifying the landing gear. With the original gear
locations, he couldn't hardly land it without it tipping over on the nose and
dinging a prop.

Sorry, I don't remember what he did, but the following week with the modified
gear everything worked fine. I know this isn't much help, but at least if
you have the same problem you'll know someone else did also and it's not just
your building or flying.

Good luck,

Norm in New Mexico

Hey, another one. Hi, I am the owner of the factory that makes the
Tamecat. Altech buys them from us, sells them to you, no big deal. The
Tamecat is great to fly. Its in MAN, I think March or April. As to trim
and CG, follow the plans and all will be well. Also, a good instructor
would be nice for the test flight. Let me know how it works out.

I have built two of these planes. They are a nice, slow and well behaved
aircraft. Make sure the CG balances on the main wing spar. Add 25% additional
control surface throw, over what was called for in the plans.

If this is your first flight get with an instructor as previously mentioned.

The slow speed characteristics of this plane are fantastic. I am sure you
will have a lot of fun with this plane.

I have one caution. My instructor was hovering the plane at a club R/C
airshow, demonstrating the slow speed characteristics, and the plane went
into a unrecoverable flat spin (minor damage). We met the designer of the
plane and he said the plane couldn't have done that. I figured it was my
inexperience with scratch building from plans.

Bill,

I have never been able to flat-spin the Tamecat. Maybe the CG was too
far back? And could you tell me who designed the Tamecat? I would like
to write to him.

Thanks,

Rene,

I was unaware that the Tamecat was being sold it kit form. Could you
send some info on the production run of this plane. I followed the
Plans and Instructions from Model Avaition's June 1990 issue written by
Jeff Troy (author and designer). I added bolt on wings and modified the
canopy attachment. Both of my tamecats are still flyable.

Thanks,

I flew this plane for a student pilot. It trimmed out nice, flew like a
trainer, but had a tendency to nose over on the ground. I believe this is
because the nose gear is so far rearward (or the pilot).
