Hello everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone can reccomend a good pair of wire cutters fit for
the heavier guage push rods. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Patrick

Be careful, tempered music wire will ruin any cutters that I have come across.
A Dremmel with cutoff disk works fine!

Just use side cutters with a longer handles 4 more leverage

Up to 4-40, you can use a heavy pair of side-cutters. Large than that and I'd
go to a cut-off wheel in a Dremel.

PS: Never use side cutters on music wire. Use the cutoff wheel.

The common pinch type of cutters are definitely useless for music wire.
I was visiting a friend at his machine shop once while he was cutting .093
spring steel wire for making coil springs. He had a pair of box joint side
cutters with a special notch in the side specifically for cutting hardened
wire. These use a shearing rather than pinching action, and made the job
very quick and easy. I've looked through all my tool catalogs (I have one
that weighs about 10 lbs. 4000+ pages) but have never found anything with the
same features. I think it was made by Crescent, but it was a few years
old..they may not make them anymore.

So I guess I will pile-on and say Dremel with a cut-off disk.

I've got an old pair of 'linesman' pliers that routinely cut 1/16" music wire with no problems or discernible wear...Klein Tools...

I just get some inexpensive side cutters from the bargain tool bin and
use 'em until they're too chewed up to work.

Most decent bullnose pliers have a little groove in the side which is
designed to be used as a wire shear. Works a treat.

Don't use ordinary side cutters. You'll ruin them and have someones eye
out...

Best thing I found was my Dremel tool with a metal cutting blade.
Works great, and can fit in tight places! Now they have a right angle
attachment.

Get a set of linemans pliers, they are a little heavier duty than your
standard wire cutters, and handle music wire real well.

I have been using a miniature bolt cutter that I got at Sears a few
years back. Will cut the hardest piano wire up to #6 with no problems.

The best wire cutter I have is the trusty Dremel with a fiberglass cutoff
wheel.

Yeah, but if you had a Klein lineman's plier, you could also
drive nails, and Dremels don't hammer worth _beans_ !

Klein pliers cut wire, drive nails, electrical staples, open bottles(pop of
course) and are just about the best friend an electrician has in his pocket.
Went through about half a dozen in eight years, and still use the "worn out
ones" at home.
