The reason I am asking is I have been out of the hobby for about 5 years
now, but I am starting back up again.. My old Futaba is not narrow band.
I am looking to get a new radio so if anyone has a good 6 channel for sale
let me know.

Ken,
I use a Flash 5, and like it so much better than an analog radio. It may
have a little shorter battery length, but it's worth it. I have talked with
HiTech a few times just asking questions (via email) and they always
respond instantly. I would recommend a HiTech Flash 5.
Now, it is not a 6 channel radio, if you wish to have flaps you may want to
step up to the HiTech Prism 7X

I had problems with the Focus 4 system; the rudder servo would reset
itself after it was all trimmed out. I also had problems with the 300
servos. I have had great success with the focus 6 channel system with
the 422 servos. Never a glitch, and when they were in a crash, Hi-Tech
would fix the receivers and servos for free as long as the system was
still under warrenty. Overall, I'm very impressed with Hi-Tech.

Hi, Mark. What was the nature of the problems with the HS-300 servos?
I have about eight of them and have been flying four of them in a
Hobby Shack Caprice 15 without a problem. However, the Caprice 15 is
powered by an OS.20FS with very low vibration and the airframe does
not load the servos appreciably.
Your comments would be appreciated.

Hi Ed and all,
Most of my problems with the servoes was that they stopped responding to
transmitter imputs. At first, they would hesitate when I moved the
transmitter sticks. This was after 25 flights on the Fun One from GP. I
tried on emore flight after noticing this, and this time the servoes
stopped moving completely just as the plane was taking off!!! The
throttle servo still responded, so I slowed the plane down, then ever so
intermittantly the other 3 servoes would "kick" for a second, then
nothing again. I did get the plane down in one piece, but I had to clean
out my shorts after I had stopped shaking. I replaced these 3 servoes
with the 422's, and never had a problem again. I did finally have a
problelm with the last 300, and replaced that. After 100 flights or so,
I gave the Fun One away to a freind, and the radio system ended up in my
new Big Stick 20, again no problems.
Now in all fairness, I have to add that my Fun One had the OS 40 SF ABC
on it, which is a little on the over powered side, and did produce
vibration (with prop balanced). Could have been the cause of the
problem. But I am still amazed that there was such a difference between
the 300 and 422 servos. That's why I go with the Focus 6 now, to get the
422's.
I also know of another fellow who had the 300 in the aileron of a LT-40.
Had the same problem with the servo going bad. I think he put in a
stronger DAD servo, and has not had a problem since (even after rekitting
the plane!!).
Hope this helps.

Greetings,
Hi-tech has a superior radio system, however the servo (as I
understand it, also tower hobby servo's) are very close to junk.
I'm to lazy to go look, but I have had "hiher end" hi-tech servo's
go bad on me. Luckily it was on the ground before flight.
Their receivers are the best, bar none (Your mileage may vary)
but servos are the weak link.

Aren't those Hitec recievers the same good ole Made in the USA RCD
aftermarket hot rods of a few years back? Maybe Hitec is only as good as
the engineers at RCD make them... Or they know how to pick a winner!

Hitec & RCD are essentially in bed together; RCD's have never been made
in the US, AFAIK.
They're very good receivers, though, I've got three that have never had a
glitch. In fact, I'm now using them with both my JR X-347 (which they
were bought for) and my new Airtronics Spectra, interchangably.

This is the kind of disgusting, immoral talk we can do without in this
newsgroup. But how long do you think one might be able to use any baby
servos in indoor airplanes before they grow up? ;-)
