"Wayne Handley was injured today (Sunday)in an accident at the California
International Air Show in Salinas, California.
Though the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, Handley was
completing a loop in the early stages of his performance when his Turbo
Raven hit hard -- belly first -- on the tarmac, knocking off the plane's
landing gear and seriously damaging the aircraft.
Rescue personnel from the show responded to the accident quickly and within
a few minutes reported that Handley was conscious and moving in the cockpit.
He was taken to the Salinas Memorial Hospital where he underwent exploratory
surgery to determine the exact nature of his injuries.
According to unconfirmed but very reliable reports, Handley had two cracked
back vertebrae and severe pain in his lower back, but no permanent spinal
cord injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.
We'll have more news about Wayne's condition and his recovery as we receive
it."
Just for additional information.

I have just updated Wayne's web site (at http://waynehandley.com) with
Wayne's condition. I will be making updates as we learn more, so check back
there for the current information.
Here is the current update:
Turbo Raven Accident
October 4, 1999 Update
Wayne Handley was injured in a crash of the Oracle Turbo Raven on October 3,
1999 at the California International Airshow in Salinas, CA. Wayne had just
begun his performance, doing his loop on take-off back to a landing. There
is no information yet on the cause of the crash.
After the accident Wayne was conscious and admitted to Salinas Valley
Memorial Hospital with a couple of cracked vertebrae. Wayne is stable, but
in the intensive care unit at this time. He will have surgery on his back
on Tuesday afternoon, 10/5/99. Wayne is expected to have to stay in the
hospital for a couple of weeks to recover from his surgery before going
home, but should make a full recovery.
Wayne & Karen would like to express their appreciation for the outpouring of
calls, cards and prayers for Wayne wishing him a rapid recovery. It really
helps Wayne and Karen to know that everyone is thinking of them at this
difficult time.
Since Wayne is in the ICU at this time, the cards are great, but Karen has
asked that people not send any flowers since they are not allowed in the
ICU. If you wish, donations to Salinas area charities may be made through
the Wayne Handley California International Airshow Fund. The fund is at:
Community Bank, 301 Main Street, Salinas, CA 93901, account # 01383520.

I'm trying to finish up a Parkinson Cheetah with an OS .91 engine. I
was told that I should not use the standard pipe pressure system as it
shoots back debree into the tank system and thus back into the engine.
I heard the Jet Models puffer system off the fan unit is better. Does
anyone have experience with either pressure system or heard that the
standard pipe pressure system is a problem?
Thanks for the help. Can't wait to get this thing flying!!!
