Can anyone point me in the direction or give me any information on scale kits
of the WW2 German fighter plane known as the Messerschmitt 109. Ive noticed
kits for the Focke Wulfe 190, but not the 109. At this point I dont care what
type(109 Emil, 109 Franz, 109 Gustav, or 109K). Im looking for a kit in the
range of 2 stroke 40's or 50s...but any size really. Im kind of desperate. I
love this plane...and really want to fly a scale model version...Thanks for
your time.

Believe Royal have gone. Their kits were sourced from Marutaka of Japan
who are still in existence.

Just another thought - you could try a plan and kit cutters if you don't
want to cut out the parts yourself.

Try - Aerotech 60" .60 Emil UK kit
Platt 78" .91-1.20 Gustav USA kit
or plans - more choices.

I had same problem too. For some reason, maybe politics, hardly anyone kits the Bf
109. Here is what I know:

Midwest Me 109, 40size, stand (way) back scale
Dave Platt 109, 60size, expensive and for master builders
Meister 109, 100 inch wing span, heard that it's good

Royal has/had a 60 to90 size 109g kit. I don't know if they are still in
business or not so you might have to do some digging to find them.

I think there is also a .40 size ME-109 available from Midwest. I have
never owned one, just seen it advertised, but the price seems right.

1. How can I contact/order from Marutaka?

2. The Midwest Messerschmitt is a fun-scale Emil version. I have a Thunder
Tiger 46 on mine and it really goes! Flies great, but it's not what you would
consider a scale aircraft.

3. I asked this in another post, but does anyone have plans for the Platt 109
that they want to get rid of. Thanks.

4. Tower, Great Planes, Topflite, are you listening? Give us a 109F/G/K!!!
I have never understood why this plane is so neglected. Tens of thousands
built; flown by the top ace of all time and virtually all the runners-up; the
plane that most embodies the Luftwaffe; one of the most kitted plastic
models; and one of the most written-about and studied aircraft of all time.
What's the deal? I mean, if Topflite can do a P-39, why the hell can't it do
a Bf109? And a single kit could be the basis for several different types.
Basic kit is an F/early G. Add a couple of bumps and it's a G-6. Make minor
changes to the vertical tail, cowl, and canopy and it's a G-10/K. No
accessory kit (as for the P-51B and razorback P-47) needed! (Well, maybe
they could do one to turn the kit into an Emil.) And six bezillion colorful
paint schemes to choose from, many of them from countries other than Germany
and therefore devoid of that offensive little swastika.

C'mon, guys!

This may already have been mentioned but there's a Global Me109 ARF
around in .40 size, advertised in RCM. There are a couple of them
flying at my local field and they are pretty reasonable. Not exactly
very good scale but anyone would easily recognise them as a 109.

Wow !!! You DO love 109's, don't you ?!? Ok, Marutaka - if they still
do it - let's see if you like these options :-

1. What radio do you use -Futaba, JR, Airtronics ? Ask them nicely if
they can put you in touch.

2. Call up the Japanese Trade Consultant at your nearest Japanese
Consulate or Embassy - they can be very helpful. Where are you
located ?

3. Wait until I get back home next month - I have a Marutaka Zero kit
and can get the address off the box. Are you in a big hurry ?

4. Try RCOnline - they may have a link.

5. Ask Bob Banka of Scale Model Research. He has a franchised agent in
Japan - look up his catalogue.

That should be enough to keep you going for a while.

Well reading the other posts and pleas for kits you can't win them all
but why not try an electric one..in fact the two adversries in
electric..have just bought the spitfire and a friend the ME.109 and we
plan to dogfight with ribbons in the local park after work for a change
of pace now that daylight saving time is back. Kits are usual high Robbe
quality check out=
http://www.robbe.de/englisch.html
full detail/pictures of both on the site..we opted for the unpainted
versions as v.much cheaper and we will use own schemes.

Here's one that I found

might not be exactly what you're looking for, though

The P-39 makes a good scale fighter because it has tricycle gear, good moments
and areas for a model. The Bf-109 has narrow tracked gear (caused real
problems on the prototype too) which makes for hard time with retracts and
ground handling. Still, GP ought to come out with a 109 in their series.
Does anyone know of a kit or plans of a 109 in 1/6 scale? My Pica Spitfire
needs an enemy.

Yeah, the gear was always a problem in the real plane, and having just
started with taildraggers I know what a pain they are in general. But like
you I still think TF-GP should tackle it.

Another problem with the plane is narrow nose--little room to hide the engine.
The P-39 has the same problem, though.

Someone e-mailed me saying he had a 65" span foam/fiberglass NIB kit for sale,
which is roughly 1/6. He's probably keeping up with thread, but I'll forward
his email to you. Despite my intense desire for a 109, I can't hand away any
cash at the moment.

There's also the mythical Royal kit. I have no idea where you might find one
of those, or how scale it is.

pilot/ok models used to have a 109 kit .60 size,
flew great (until I lost it on landing) the kit sold through hobby shack in the
mid 80's. Wish I still had it. Does any have one of these NIB?
If so pls email me.

I just picked up the latest copy of Model Airplane News, and there is a
picture of a new scale 84-in. (IIRC) 109G designed by someone named Ty Brown
and offered as a short kit by Meister Scale. (They already offer a 109 but
it's a 1/4 scale.)

Maybe it's just me, but the plane looks a little out of proportion--canopy
looks too small, fuse looks too tall or something. If it IS out of
proportion, it probably wouldn't be too hard to fix it.

This Ty Brown guy modified a Meister 190D into a really impressive-looking
Ta-152 that's in the same issue.

I talked to Ty about his Messerschmitt and he explained that he used a canopy
from a Platt kit that's a bit small for his plane, while he works on a
complete scale cockpit kit. He says the new plane builds faster and lands
slower than the Platt and other scale Messerschmitts.

Ty's 109 does indeed have a scale-outline fuse, so the small canopy is what
caught my nit-picking eye. Good luck Ty and thanks for bringing a new 109 kit
into the world!

hey you and me in the same boat...

the 109 has been my favorite...

Royal used o have a 60 sized one but they arent in producion at the
moment... I have heard several differing opinions that Royak will be backk
and that it wont be...

In the meantime I finally brought myself to order a 1-09 from the IMP
company... it is a 90 sized plane... it costs 299.00 comes with
fiberglass fuselage and foam wings

I am anxiously awaiting its arrival... E mail me back and I will let you know
how it looks as a kit...

IMP Innovative Model Products their number is iun most of the RC scale mags
If you cant find it let me know and I will digit up for you.. the designer
told me by phone that this model of the 109 flies beautifully... you just
gotta be careful of the take offs with the narrow tracked gear...

good luck,

Alan

Howdy
In the Bob Holman plans catalogue. Brian Taylor has 2 sets of
interesting (to me) 109 plans. A 61"F and a 68"E.
The E is on my short list. =)
