A friend of mine has one with an OS108 for power. he loves it. It has no bad
habits. Personally I would have a larger engine but it will do everything
except hover with the 108.

I have one with a Satio 1.80 and it fly's great, kinfe edge's are easy and
with the 180 it has unlimited verticle. As with most ARF's I suggest you
renforce the landing gear and the firewall. I did the landing gear but not
the firewall and it started coming loose after the first flight so I had to
go back afterwards and do it. It comes with the foam wheels which will have
to be replaced as they wont hold up. It's one of the better planes I have
flown. It's very aerobatic and also very stable. I would suggest you start
with the CG at the forward position and then work back if you want. you wont
regret buying this one !

What skill level do you need to be to fly this model? I have been in
the hobby for less than a year and fly a Big Stick and a Sig Somethin
Extra. I have had no crashes yet. The time will come eventually. I
would really like to get a plane like this but don't want to be
waisting my time.

Do the wing panels seperate? Is it pretty easy to transport?

Thanks,
Kenny

Anyone past the trainer stage could fly it as long as you keep the travel
low on everything. It is a very gentle flying plane. Set the rates up and
it will do any of the 3D manuvers. If your flying a big stick you wouldn't
have anyproblems with this one.

The wing is one piece and is about 6' long. It's easy for me to transport,
I have a short bed full size pickup and I usually haul 2 planes this size
plus 2 helo's. If your doing it in a car you migh have a problem.

If you are very comfortable flying your current models, you should have no
problem flying this one... remember bigger usually flies better.... The
wingspan is 73", I have a Hanger 9 CAP 232 with a 73" wingspan and I fit it
in my 4 door Grand Am no problem....

I would recommend a Saito 180 and APC 17x8 prop on this airplane....

Enjoy!

I fit an 80" MW Extra in my 2 door Acura Integra. I have to pull the LG
and spinner off, but if I can fit that into my car, most people will be
able to figure out a way to get a Sig Extra into theirs.

Just looking at the statistics, although the Hangar9 Cap and the Sig
Extra 300XS both have the same Wingspan, but the Sig is listed as 12-
13lbs while the H9 Cap is 10.5 lbs. That's a 2-2.5 lbs heavier plane! I
wanted to get this too with Saito 180 but if it really turns out to be
13 lbs, don't think the Saito 180 will hover it well...

Just a thought.

William.

My Hanger 9 CAP flies GREAT with the Saito 180... hovers well at 1/2 to 2/3
throttle..... I am guessing mine weighs around 12 lbs (but never weighed
it)

I think the Extra 300XS would fly nice with the Saito 180, I think the 150
would be a disappointment on that plane...

On the Saito 180 run an APC 17x8 prop, OS type "F" glow plug and Wildcat 15%
nitro / 18% ALL synthetic oil fuel....

I am looking at getting one myself. Anybody flying one with gas power?
What would be a good gas engine for unlimited vertical while keeping the
weight down?

All of the gas engines are substantially heavier than equal power glow
engines... A Saito 180 would be a good choice in this plane...

Are you a CFI?

With the lead you have to put in the H9 CAP nose to balance it, both plane
come even at 12 lbs. ;')

Well I am deffinately getting a gas engine for this baby. I can't remember
the name of the engine but 2 guys at my club have them and they are great,
When I go there I will re-post the engine and its specs and we will talk
more about it.

Thanks for all the post guys. Keep it up. I am pretty siked to get this
plane.

Not any lead in my Hanger 9 CAP... balanced perfectly with the Saito
150/180.... Even moved the battery back a bit to get the CG to 6" aft (5
5/8" is the recommended starting point)....

After 450+ flights in 2 seasons I am still very much impressed with the
ruggedness of the Hanger 9 CAP 232 ARF....

I watched a SIG Cap ARF fly with a YS 140. It was outstanding. From what
it looked like I don't think the extra weight of the Extra would be a
problem with it.

The YS140 should fly it nice... but if you want to save $200+, get a Saito
180 and still enjoy unlimited vertical!

Anyone try a gas engine in this plane? I have been thinking about
buying this plane and putting gas in it.

HI Miles. If you're thinking gas for this plane, the best engine would be
the RCS 140 (more info found here:
http://www.rcshowcase.com/RCS%20Engines.htm ). This engine weighs 32 ounces
with its ignition. Add the ignition battery, and it's only 5 or 6 ounces
heavier than, say, a Super Tiger 2300, a Moki 1.35, or a Saito 1.80. The
other choice in this size range (1.4 cubic inch) is the Zenoah G-23 which
weighs a pound more, and is less powerful.

Having said that, the Sig Extra will weigh about 13 pounds powered by the
above glow engines and the RCS 140. The RCS makes less power than all of
them, being more on par with a 1.20 size glow engine. That's definitely
enough to fly the plane. The only maneuvers that will suffer are those that
require a vertical component. The RCS will provide adequate vertical, but
you'll definitely see the difference compared to one of the above glow
engines. But then, you won't have the cleanup problems, or the fuel bill,
right? Everyone doesn't need unlimited vertical, or the power to hover!

You could install a larger gas engine that will give you the power for
unlimited vertical, but the additional weight of the big engine transforms
the plane into a high powered brick. It WILL go up, but all its other
flight qualities suffer.

You pays your money, and takes your choice. It all depends on what kind of
flying you want the plane to be capable of.

Tim
