I am in the process of putting together a HO/OO module for my
home layout, and one of my scenery requirements is to use
the "period" red telephone booths and pillar post boxes. Pillar
boxes and modern phone kiosks are no problem. I've managed
to find them pretty easily.

Unfortunately, the "period" style phones don't seem to be
available in the US (or the UK 8^) ). The handful of places
that I know of to check don't carry them. My girlfriend's
parents took a trip to Leicester (sp?) to visit relatives, and
picked up a few things for me at the Signal Box.

Apparently, detail parts like phone booths are not commonly
found in hobby shops...8^( Anyone know of a good source
for them? (esp. in the US) It's kind of hard to get the right
look for a country village without a telephone booth at the
station or post office.....

Thanks,
John Thorpe

In article <DwrB1...@ncrcae.ColumbiaSC.NCR.COM>, J.T.Thorpe@?.?.Columb
iaSC.NCR.COM writes
There are two types of 4mmscale traditional red 'phone boxes available
from Shire Scenes (address below); the K1 (1925 with curly roof finnial)
and the K8 (with large windows, last design of red box) part numbers S24
and S31 respectively. I saw some of these the other weekend and they
looked pretty good.

Address:
4 North Cottages,
Landscove,
Ashburton
Devon
TQ13 7LU
UK

Tel: +44 1803 762 498

(They take Amex/Visa/Mastercard)

BTW I'm not a 'phone box freak; I'm just reading the price list!

There are some well stocked model shops who advertise in the Modeller.

Two to try are:

Mainly Trains
Watchet
Somerset - don't have any more details with me.

and

Totally Trains
1 Cantilupe Court
Cantilupe Road
Ross on Wye
Herefordshire
HR9 7AN

Phone - 44 1989 567577 fax 44 1989 567266

Both stock Langley which is an extensive range of 4mm scale bits
and pieces to add to the scenice side of the layout. and both do
Shire Scenes.

Totally Trains have a VAT free sales service for non-EC customers.

I hope that this helps.

regards

Further to my earlier post I have located two further sources of red
telephone boxes in 4mm scale.

Model Scene, formerly "Merit" make ready assembled and coloured plastic
versions sold in packs of 2. Model Scene products are distributed by
Pritchard Patent Product Co. Ltd and are widely available in the UK.
Part no in the PPP catalogue is 5006. I saw some yesterday at the Model
Warehouse in Stonehouse; they looked okay but obviously not as fine as
the etched brass kits. This means they would be ideal for someone of my
limited abilities!

Langley miniatures also produce a "period telephone box", item no F32.
I don't know if this is a kit or ready assembled, but would guess the
former. They are currently listed by The Engine Shed.

Adresses:

The Model Warehouse
38 High Street
Stonehouse
Gloucestershire
GL10 2NA
UK

Tel: +44 (0)1453 823156

Takes Amex/Visa/Mastercard

The Engine Shed
(Freepost BR792)
Arundel
West Sussex
BN18 9BR
UK

Tel +44 (0)1903 884488

Takes Amex/Visa/Mastercard/Diners
