Concerned about China model train production?

I heard that Life-Like has been owned by Red China for about two years now.
I was wondering if anyone else has information on this. The company name is
Proto. My first concern is why is a Red China company (really the Red China
government) allowed to own a company in the United States?
My second concern is all the United States model train companies are shifting
to have production made in Red China by this same company named Proto.
Anyone else that has information on this I would like to hear from you. I will
say at this point that I have not confirmed that Life Like is owned by Proto
based out of Red China. I just want to know more on this subject.

Thanks,
Scott

Why don't you just ask them? 800-638-1470. It's a free call, and will
save a lot of speculation here.

The US does not seem to have a great many restrictions against foreign
ownership of US companies, unlike many other countries that forbid,
restrict or otherwise control ownership of indigenous companies.
.
I have no idea if Life Like is Chinese owned.

I /think/ that this is confused with Bachmann which has been owned for
several years by Kader Holdings Co Ltd (which is a now a Chinese company -
used to be Hong Kong. Well it still is /in/ Hong Kong.) They also own
Templeton Global Fund and Capital City Properties among a lot of other
things.

Life-Like owns Lifoam which makes those styrofoam coolers you buy at the
7-Eleven. Maybe they have outside ownership, don't know. There is no hint
on either site.

No, they're not owned by China, but their stuff is made in China. So is a lot
of stuff with American brands on it.

Ever wonder why?

Scott,

What makes you think that they are owned by China? Life-Like has been based in
the US for many years(Baltimore IIRC). A lot if the P2K train production is done
in China(along with Bachmann, Atlas, Con-Cor....), or any other Pacific Rim
country that bids the work out at a low price.........

Talked with folks at Bachmann in Chicago and they pushed production back to
push the Shay as well as other production first. They Shay showed in Chicago
and it was running up and down about a 6' tall 34" radius helix. Ran very nice.
Hands on look at model shows a potentially decent model. I say potentially
because they've managed to screw up some past products once in production.
However this looks like a winner for Bachmann.

I know that that was tongue-in-cheek, but in reality Chinese passenger
stock is green in color with yellow stripes above and below the
windows.

Oh, and it appears that the People's Republic have rediscovered the

The little-known and rather mysterious Ruritanian businessman and
Papal Knight Sir Redmond ("Red") China managed to acquire a majority
holding in Life-Like in June 1998.

Mr China made his fortune by selling small hinged pieces of wood,
painted yellow, to canary-breeders.

Does that help you at all?

Only the truly gullible could have taken those reports at face value.

Did it not occur to you that "Redmond" is the name of the town where
Microsoft is headquartered?

And that Redmond is served by the BNSF?

And that Bill Gates owns 7.5% of the Wisconsin Central Railroad?

How could anyone see this all as mere coincidence?

Besides, it's a little known fact that there's a conspiracy involving
the Two Bills. The REAL owner of Life-Like, Athearn, Atlas, Walthers
AND Bachman is the Corporation Corporation, an off-shore holding
company which is jointly operated by Messrs. Gates and Clinton.

Now you know why Athearn units are always behind schedule and come out
missing some of the details that were promised in the literature...

How 'bout them Washington REDskins, huh? And you thought it was just an
inappropriate reference to Native Americans. Hah!

Did you know that Life Like produces black helicopters? They'd have
painted them another color, but they ran out of Red Dye No.2.
Bachmann would have produced black helicopters too, but the New World
Order (Whitewater Div.) wanted them to fly.

Most of the high-end diesel models available today are made under contract for
Life-Like/Proto 2000...Atlas...and Bachman/Spectrum. Athearns are US made, Kato
is from Japan. Stewart used to use Kato drives but I believe they now produce
their own (?)

Most of these Chinese models are made by a firm called Kader. This was written
up extensively a couple of years ago in "Model Railroader."

This started around 1990 when Life Like began their Proto 2000 line with the
BL-2 diesel.

Life-Like isn't owned by China...they just contract production to them.

Well, Senor Big Whon, you answered your own question. Ever so often,
they'd go down to Jordan and get dunked by the Baptist. Washed away
everything: dirt, sin, the lot. Unfortunately, Jordan flows into a
small, closed lake. All that dirt and sin just piled up, and now it's
the Dead Sea.
New York City is trying to do the same thing to the Atlantic.

OK, in that vein (from another newsgroup):

"Oh give me a clone
Of my own flesh and bone
With the Y chromosome changed to X

And when it is grown
My very own clone
She'll be of the opposite sex!

Clone, clone of my own

Truth of the matter is that haggis is about like bangers or brats. pretty bland
actually unless you spice it up a lot. If you eat Pennsylvania scrapple, haggis
should be no problem.

Aye, and of course one would have to wonder about the origin of the
term "SCRAPple" (I like it, myself). Good bangers have good flavor
(anything that gives flavor to mash has to have something).

Of course, there are people who actually eat lutefisk, so the idea of
"fit for human consumption" has some fuzzy borders.
