want to weather my track and as air gun painting is out of the question, I
am looking for any suggestions on hand painting the track. Type of paint,
colour of paint, type of brush, best way to paint, or any ideas you may have
that would be of a help.

Track is not layed yet. I am using Peco code 75 flex and turnouts. I am
thinking of pre-painting the track before laying and touching up any
problems once the track is down.

I know hand painting will be a slow process, but I work out of town during
the week and painting would give me something to do at night in the hotel
room.

Thanks for any help

I haven't reach this stage yet, but it's been suggested that Gun Blueing be
utilized for finish track. The rational as provided by the person who made
the suggestion is that once applied, it will not come off as the finish is
actually a by product of a chemical reaction. What do others in this NG
think?

Prepainting flex track will lead to problems as the rails are then "glued"
to the ties and the track won't move until you break the paint joint. Do
the painting afterwords and things will be better. Blackening is a better
way to go but you are limited as to the colors available.
You may want to figure out a holder for a brush to ride on top of the rails
and apply the paint to the side of the rails.

Dont use paint, use micro engineering rail weathering solution (acid).
It is clear. Paint it on and let it sit. Clean rail heads and done.

It's well worth the time and effort!

I've been hand painting my Atlas Flex and I think it looks great. I use
PollyScale Rust and Grimy Black in a 10:1 ratio for mainline and sidings,
and 100% rust for spurs. I use a small brush and just drag it on the
visible sides of the rails. Some of the color gets on the "spikes" and
that's great.

It takes FAR less time to do than it sounds like it would.
