Don't let the French hear you call their pride the TGV "old"!
Seriously, looking through the new HO products from Lima for 1996, they
have about every imaginable version of the TGV, Thalys, the French-Swiss
TGV, Cisalpino, Eurostar, some Italian high-speed trains.
Fleischman has a model of the German ICE (slightly shortened
length-wise). Roco has one too that while designed to be inexpensive,
looks very good (slightly shortened length-wise), and Roco has also
announced that they will bring out the latest version of ICE as soon as
it is off the drawing board (scale length, exclusive detailing).
Any of these models should have good to excellent running
characteristics.
Hope this helps.

Lima has just released (September) a new series of TGV's with new
motors and chassis. I still have to receive them but I read that their
quality has really improved.
