Can anyone provide tips? I have never used this particular water based
paint before in an airbrush.
Does anyone know if I can spray Testors Glosscoat/Matte clear coat over
the dry waterbased paint? How about brushing on Floquil (i.e. painting
handrails).

Based on my experience with Pro-Color (n.b.: though not the Royal Purple)
you may have caused the opacity problem yourself, Jim. Do _not_ thin
Pro-Color. Instead, move up one notch in airbrush nozzle size, while
leaving the pressure in the 25 psi range. When we did this, we were
successfully covering black and white stripes with any color Pro-Color
we tried, in a single coat. No trace of stripes showing through at all.
The Pro-Color people advised us against thinning Pro-Color at all, with
anything.
If you try this (I don't have the purple paint here), let us know if it
resolves the problem. Oh, and no connection to P-C, other than that I
sat around and chewed the fat with Bob Birkholz in Madison last year.

Bob Birkholz retired to Oklahoma and has discontinued bottling Pro Color
paint.
I am selling my existing stock at 50% off. Call Ken Eilken or Matt
Meister at Des Plaines Hobbies at 847-297-2118 to check stock.

I've used the Jolly Green Giant Green paint (SAL GP-40s) that the Society
offers. I was able to shoot it directly from the bottle. It dried to a nice
gloss finish on to which I was able to apply decals with good results. I
sprayed a Floquil flat finish with good results. I also used the paint on the
handrails and walkways with good results as well.

I have painted several ACL diesels using the Pro Color ACL Roual Purple paint.
Though the end results were good, I do not like this paint at all. First of
all, it is not opaque. As a result, the more coats you apply the darker and
more maroon it becomes.
Second, do NOT mix it with water of any kind. I got far better results
thinning it with isopropyl alcohol purchased for 57-cents in a pint bottle from
the local drugstore. I suggest thinning Pro Color, Model Flex, and Poly Scale
with this alcohol for spray painting. Thin it to about 40 to 50 percent
alcohol and spray at about 25 psi.
For the Pro Color ACL paint, II found that mixing in a little Poly Scale mediun
to light gray paint will increase its opacity without ruining the ACL Royal
Purple color.
You do not need an internal mix airbrush for any of the paints I just mentioned
when thinning in this way with isopropyl alcohol. About any decent airbrush
will do just fine.

Ron, is this the end of Pro Color as we know it, or did Bob sell the
line off?

No matter how great your triumphs or how tragic your defeats,
approximately one billion Chinese couldn't care less.
You can use any sealer over this paint after cured and decaled.
Mr. Zeni:
I believe there was on offer to sell the line, but I believe the line
retired with Bob Birkholz.

I have tried ACL purple right from the bottle without thinning. The results
are even worse. There is something about the Pro Color ACL purple that is
different than the other colors.
I have also tried using all sized ot air brush tips. Still same results.

Ah. Well, it seems the matter is largely academic now, anyway, since
Bob Birkholz and Pro-Color are said to have retired.
