I need some help. Two or three weeks ago, I was watching Tracks Ahead
with my son, and saw an artist who specialized in steam trains. I'm
trying to get the name of this artist. He had a picture of the Broadway
Limited racing the Twentieth Century Limited that I really liked. I'd
really appreciate any information on Rail Road Artists.
Thanks,

The guy I studied art under has done several railroad pieces, including a set
of 'collector' plates.
I know he has also done seveal magazine covers, althought I don't have the
specifics on hand at this time.

His name is Ted Xaras. He is an avid railroad fan, and collects prototypical
railroad memorabilia, builders plates, switches, etc.... He was also
instrumental in moving the J tower to the Strassburg Railroad Museum, and it's
restoration.

I don't know if he did the picture in question. I could probably tell just by
seeing it. I am rather familiar with his style, after all I studied under him
for 3 years! :)

Don't know if this is the guy you are looking for or not but a fellow
by the name of Jim Jordan does good railroad work. I purchased a nice
2-6-0 print from him at Madison this year. I beleave he is located in
Tennessee, Knoxville or Chattanoga I think. Don't have an address or
phone number for him.

I think the artist on "Tracks Unlimited" was the late Howard Fogg. I saw that same
program, and the painting of the Broadway and Century was shown. I think prints
of this painting are avialable. See some recent issues of Trains, or Railroad &
Railfan, and check the ads for print dealers.

Good hunting, Andrew Harmantas

If this was the episode from the first season of Tracks Ahead, it was
indeed Howard Fogg. He unfortunately passed away last year (October I
think). If you're contemplating Fogg originals, plan on spending big
(1000's) bucks. Prints are available from time to time for much less
(but still pricey). Tom Klinger (ad in Model Railroader magazine
classifieds monthly) currently has Fogg prints for sale, of a Rio Grande
steamer I think.
