value of 60's vintage Lionel train set?

I have a neighbor who lost his house to a fire recently. He asked for help
in valuing the Lionel train set that was part of the loss.

Based on his memory this was:

1960's vintage
4-5 pieces of rolling stock
2 metal steam engines
track
original box

Any guesses as to what this might have been worth? Just looking for ballpark
figures here to provide the insurance company.

Most likely the value is around $100, assuming the loco's were common
"scout" type 2-4-2's or 2036-family 2-6-4's and the rolling stock were
typical train set pieces, and it was all in typical played-with condition.
IF the loco was a 773 scale Hudson, and IF the rolling stock were unusual
items, and IF he had all the individual item boxes with the set box, and IF
it was all in like new or better condition, the value might be over $1,000.

It's almost impossible to estimate the value with the info you gave. You'll
just have to "guestimate."
It could be as little as $50.00, or as much $1000.00 or more ?? depending
on a lot of things.

Probably worth a more in sentimental value. You'd need the exact model numbers
to determine the market value. Insurance probably won't provide for more than
a couple hundred dollars unless you have statement of appraised value.
