They must do so much business that they have become calous, and arrogant.
They don't care if you come to them or not. They don't care if you're happy
or not. They can afford to lose business, and pick only the customers that
are 'easy' to work with.
If you insist on even the mildest justification for anything they pat
response is 'maybe you should just go elsewhere';....so I did. :-)
Make them earn thier money. Starve them a little and maybe they'll feel the
pinch enough to get a heart, and a conscience.
They are not the best when it comes to customer service. I can't understand
the attitude they have. I dealt with them once last year, I won't do it again.
I get better prices and MUCH better service at Caboose Hobbies.

Pete is the coolest, and their prices are way low.
I'm currently having him custom paint a Kato F-7 A+B set in Northern Pacific
for me.
They're good!
Another place I recently discovered is Southern Digital. This guy is way
pleasant and smart. He knows DigiTrax DCC so well, that I'm buying my
DigiTrax Empire Builder from him, just because he took the time to answer
all of my questions on the phone. The bonus is that he sells all the Peco
stuff too! Check him out, and say Neal said Hi.

You guys want to tell me who has an advertised price that beats that?
So, what are you guys talking about?
Yes, it tries to bother me when I read posts like above because
my experience is nothing like these other gentlemen. Also, I have been using
N Scale Supply (not exclusively BTW) for years with absolutely nothing but
excellent service.
I have and will continue to shop Caboose Hobbies, but I don't know what people
are talking about regarding prices. BLW - I agree with the comments, have
not used them yet. I seem to remember their prices being high, re-visited
their site recently because of all the talk and have found more reasonable
prices.
I think N Scale Supply has an awesome website, which took many hours of work
to put together. None of these other sellers mentioned here are even in the
ballpark. Yes, you can order, but you can't see everything. And ease of
access is phenomenal. Except for Caboose, their websites are not as
comprehensive, either.
I don't have a personal interest in N Scale Supply, but when I read people
writing things like - "starve them out" and the like, I think that's wayyyyy
wrong. We don't need vindictiveness like this in our hobby. You can take
your business elsewhere, no one's stopping you.
Let me tell you something, you'll go somewhere else and then they'll screw up
and you'll be mad at them next.
So, I'm here saying I contradict what the above persons have written. Yes,
they might have had problems or bad service, but I am a person that has had
nothing but excellent service, and I haven't spent tons of money there. I
have shopped there for years (3-4) and have not had any of these other
people's issues. I have been treated with respect.
They have always responded with information quickly. They have been
extraordinarily helpful in research, like, "What MT coupler should I use?"
Tell me who has a better website for N Scale? No One!
Respectfully,
Mark Salvaterra

****Could not agree more with Mark on several statements here....N Scale
Supply easily has the best website---well organized, quick loading, looks
good, lots of inventory. Not the BEST (lowest prices) but seems to aim for a
straight 20% off of MSRP. I have never been able to decide whose site is the
worst--Walthers or Caboose Hobbies(Denver). I can forgive Caboose, with that
monstrous inventory and cash flow, it would be an enormous undertaking to
upgrade to a state of the art site. At the risk of unintentionally offending
any other shops, Caboose Hobbies has the greatest, most helpful, friendliest
staff of any shop in the Western 2/3rds of the country. You never know if
that part-time clerk solicitously waiting on you, is a Doctor or a Lawyer
having fun working in the train store on his weekenf off from his real job.
I shop there 3 or 4 times a year and it's a 1700 mile drive for me. Oh
yeah...Denver's traffic sucks!
***It's only fair to note that I have not frequented ANY of the Los Angeles
shops(even worse traffic!) and have never been to San Diego(can't understand
Spanish and I'm afraid someone might see me associating with those San Diego
modelers wearing propeller-equipped beanies!)

My receipt is dated 12/7/99 for the sale price. These and others were
on sale for about 2-3 weeks. It was fast compared to usual. I picked
up 2 CB&Q road names. You might have missed it because it was around
Christmas time and we all get busy.

I've ordered quite a bit of merchandise from N Scale Supply over the

will definitely order from them again.

Over the past two years I have ordered from NScale Supply 9 times
and never once had a problem. All orders were received within a week.
I placed an order a few days ago and told Scot the bashing he was
getting on this NG...well I did hear his side of the story.

Before you buy.
I figure it's Scott's shop, it's Scott's phone and it's Scott's time. He can
be rude if he wants to. Hell, if he wants to be rude to me, he can even call
me and be rude! He has the best model railroading dealer's website on the
WWW. I'd like to buy something from him in appreciation but I'm still too
price conscious.
I don't need to hear his side of the story. It's simply logical that a guy
isn't going to devote all that time and money to attract customers, then run
them off by being rude to them for no reason.
Rich Howey
I bought a couple of things from N-scale supply and the service was a hell
of a lot better than www.walthers.com! Anyway I'd love to try some of these
other sites, but not if they aren't online.
Anyone try www.ehobbies.com yet?

Good point, John! I've wondered the same thing several times in the past.
Although sometimes they're pretty easy to find on your own, especially in
this case: http://www.nscalesupply.com/ , where his business name is also
his domain.--either by searching previous messages(http://www.deja.com ),
viewing previous messages in the thread or utilizing the NMRA links page:
http://www.ribbonrail.com/nmra/nmralink.html
My apologies for the oversight,
Rich Howey
Here are three sites to try:
Site 1. BLW is at www.blwnscale.com
Pete runs the place, and although he doesn't say much in his email, his
prices are usually among the lowest. He also has the best selection of
custom painted locomotives around (photos and all). His website isn't as
sharp as other sites (such as N scale supply) but your not paying him for
his web site development skills anyway. He has photos of everything, and he
moves tons of locomotives. By-the-way, he is also very polite (unlike
N-Scale Supply).
Site 2. Southern Digital just sells Peco and Digitrax: they're at
http://www.digitalcommandcontrol.com/
This guy has pretty inexpensive DigiTrax stuff (although not the lowest),
and very inexpensive Peco stuff (nearly the lowest I've found). But his real
quality is his friendliness. His is so nice ('how nice is he?') - he is
soooo nice that he practically will tutor you over-the-phone while you
figure out a DigiTrax problem, or a Peco switch problem. I know because it
happened to me. He is enthusiastic and he invites you to call him again
(even when you haven't purchased anything yet). He's one very nice person.
Site 3. N scale division is at : http://www.nscaledivision.com/
I just threw this one in for fun. I've never used this site, but it looks
interesting, and I plan on trying them.
By-the-way, I have never shopped at Walthers. I always wondered how they
were.
