I'm about to acquire a new MacBook Pro which comes with an SD card slot.

I believe there are some brands of MP3 players (or "audio players") in
which the player also has an SD card slot (?).

If so, are there any of these for which I can just drag and drop audio
files (all of the ones I use are DRM-free) from the MBP on the SD card;
then plug the SD card into the player; and listen to them? (totally
free of any iTunes or other software file or device management software)

If people can suggest the brands I should look at, I can track down
details. Ability to do the same with photos would be a plus, as would
built-in FM radio.

Thanks for any advice.

SanDisk makes a few. My wife and I each got an "e130" several years ago to
play audio books at the beach. That model's been obsolete for years, but
the new ones still look similar.

The e130 had 512MB memory built-in and also takes a standard SD card. It
has its own USB interface, but you can also pre-load stuff onto your SD
cards using whatever external card writer you have. While it understands
standard directory structures, it doesn't navigate directories, simply
allowing you to scroll through the files. It runs on a single AAA battery
and came with some very comfortable earbud phones. It has a built-in FM
radio. The e130 doesn't do pictures; maybe one of the newer models does.

But, my wife now uses an 80GB iPod "Classic" and I use a 32GB iPod Touch.

Check out the Sandisk Clip+ and Sandisk Sansa. They use microSD, I
believe.

Thanks very much -- they do indeed. Anyone know offhand if the SD slot
in the new MacBook Pros will write to a microSD?

Just FYI, the microSD cards I've bought all came with an adapter to fit
a standard SD slot.

Android :-) Might have to get a smart phone though. There are non-smartphone
android devices, but embrace the love :-)

Sure, just use an adapter ... most microSD cards come with one. Makes them SD
(or SDHC).
