Hello newsgroup

A colleague who owns a classic iPod player (connected by USB cable on the
PC) changed from XP to Windows 7. On Windows 7 I was able to install the
current version on iTunes and it also recreated the playlist of all songs
currently stored on the iPod's internal store itself.

But the colleague's music collection was much larger, i.e. there are songs
stored on the XP hard drive itself only. How can i transfer them to the
Windows 7 hard drive? A simple file copy on Windows Explorer level to an
external hard drive does not seem to work (some DRM restrictions?).

It's also to note that the old XP system is not longer available, I only
have a USB disk copy generated by Linux's "dd" command due a hard drive
failure on the old XP system, so a way without exporting something from the
old iTunes application is preferred.

Thanks in advance for posting link to good articles about this topic.

Andreas

Hmm, that should work. Are they MP3s? You should post in Apple's
official forums for better support.

Ant is currently not listening to any songs on this computer.

if you have a backup copy, use that.

In the meantime, I successfully was able to import the old songs. Step 6
(add folder to library) in section "external HD" was important so that
iTunes reindexed everything.
