Cleaning out an old dresser drawer, I came across a couple of forgotten
iPod Shuffles that had been laying there for at least a year or two.
Needless to say-- zero charge on both of them. I grabbed the 4th gen
one, connected it to an Apple wall-wart via the 4 inch USB to stereo
plug it had come with, and after a while, it charged all the way up. Cool.
So then I connect up the 2nd gen iPod the same way. Nothing. No lights,
no flashes, not sign of life-- nada. Tried another outlet- zip. Tried
another wall wart- zip. Hooked it up to my Mac- zip and it's not seen in
iTunes. I do a bunch of Google and Apple support searches and nothing
any of the suggested fixes helped.
So I figure oh well, the battery self-discharged and died in the drawer.
But what the heck, it's old, I used it plenty, so it really doesn't owe
me anything. I was going to toss it-- or maybe check Ebay to see if DOA
ones were selling for enough to make it worth the hassle.
Anyway, I also found the charging dock that the 2nd gen came with so for
the heck of it, I plugged the dock in and stuck the iPod on it. Don'tcha
just know, the light came on and it charged up fine.
Lesson learned? Don't try to use a 4th gen charging cord with a 2nd gen
iPod shuffle.
