Eagle Claw Kung Fu is an excellent choice with strong techniques that
emphasizes Chin Na jointlocking. Chin Na is taught to the Chinese military
as an effective combat art in real battle situations. We learn some Chin Na
in Shaolin as well, and I can testify to a well placed joint lock myself.
Also, for aesthetic purposes the movements are beautiful as well as
practical. If you have a good Sifu you are probably set. I don't know
anything about your Sifu, so I have nothing to offer there. First choice
would be to study with Lily and/or Gini Lau but who can afford to move to
California, right?

Eagle claw is a really good choice. The chin na techniques are a little
harder to learn at first but its really neat once you learn all the
applications. The 108 locks are practical and effective. I am studying
northern eagle claw and shaolin kungfu. If your teacher studied under Master
Leung Shum then I think he's a qualified instructor of the system. Master
Leung Shum is my Si Gong ( teacher of my Sifu ), he studied under
Grandmaster Lau Fat Mon and Master Ng Wai Nung.

If you want more information about Eagle Claw Kung Fu ( also called Ying Jow
Pai ) these 2 websites should be helpful.

My Instructor's website in Southern California - Sifu Pat DiBattista
http://yingjow.com

Master Leung Shum's site in New York

Good Luck with Eagle Claw, I hope you enjoy it and learn a lot from it.

Always,
Nancy

It is a good style, but some of the forms are so damn pretty that you
wonder why they are included in a martial art.

Another web site you can look at is www.worldeagleclaw.com, this is the
association of Master Gini Lau,
personnaly I would stick with the Lau family, but as long as it is one
of the three branches mentioned in posts i.e Gini or Liliy Lau, Leung
Shum or Li Wing Kay you'll be ok.

No one knows the real eagle claw. Think about it. 108 counter locking
techniques. Counter to what? Mongolian wrestling? Other chin-na
techniques? How can you learn the counters if you dont know the
particulars?

Doesnt make cognito does it? Even some eagle claw contains moves from
CHINESE wrestling and has a LOHAN form. So its not a complete "chinese"
system. Its basicly mostly bullshit someone made up for chinese
people.

Like chinese wrestling to accomodate the chinese physiology and
mentality. Its not a real military or bodyguard system. Its kung fu
for middle and lower class chinese.

Even if you were 100% pure chinese with the lau surname, born into eagle
claw. Its wholly inneffective compared to the real military and
bodyguard techniques, patterns and forms coming from the non-chinese
sources it incorporated.

As with all other chinese martial arts, same story. Oh, yet, those
other people are 'barbarians' and easily defeatable with the
kick-in-the-air and grab your toe move. I mean come on.

Without "those people" there would be no "shaolin" in the first place.
Think about it.
