I posted these two above posts in rec.sport.boxing nine years ago when
I thought that the
jailhouse rock (AKA the 52 blocks) was just something that prisoners
had done for fun and recreation. I didn't know that it was a whole
entire fighting system with thousands of moves. Four people explained
it to me in the early '80s and three of them all showed me what I
described in the top link, so I thought that there wasn't much to it.
Someone told me that they used to "play each other for cigarettes" so
I thought that they were doing it just for sport, but it's a whole
entire fighting art based mostly on boxing.
You know how a boxer always keeps his hands moving to make it harder
for his opponent to see where the punches are coming from? They have
their own ways of moving their hands. It looks like they're having a
spastic attack or something. I just came accross (sp.?) it in YouTube
yesterday by chance (keywords "dirty boxing"). This is now my favorite
martial art ever.

This is who they're beefing to, I would not be too happy if these guys
were mad at me, he probably doesn't care I'm guessing.

Do you mind if I add just this one video? It's a promo for a
58something-minute documentary called "Jailhouse 52 Blocks Razor
Fighting Movie." I downloaded it on the net. It was very hard to do.
Of *course* we mind. The nerve!
