Wushu 32 Form Sword Play

Section IV
----------
Movement 6. Forward Step Right Upper Cut
A. Right arm straightens, and sword circles up, and back, on
the right side of body. Left hand sword finger moves to right
shoulder, palm facing left. Eyes look at sword tip. (Diagram
35-1)
B. With left foot flat on ground, pivot on left heel and
turn left toes out. Right foot steps in front of left foot to
rest lightly on the ground. At the same time, sword circles down
and then to the front; when sword reaches the front right elbow
bends slightly, palm up and sword tip as high as head; left hand
sword finger moves from right shoulder downward, forward, and up,
and then comes to upper-left above head, elbow slightly bent.
Eyes look at sword tip (Diagram 35-2)
Movement 7. Sitting Stance Reverse Upper Cut
Right foot takes a small step to the front, then left foot
steps to the right front, then left foot steps to the right
passing right foot, and both knees bend fully to form sitting
stance. When left foot crosses over the right, sword circles up,
to the left, and down, then continues to the upper-right, thumb
side of hand facing down and sword tip higher than head; left
hand sword finger drops down passing front of body, then up
toward the back, and finally to side of left ear (thumb side of
hand down). Body leans towards left-front. Eyes look at sword tip
(Diagram 36)
Note: The movements must be continuous. Left leg completely
sits on ground, and the outside part of left foot touches ground;
right leg presses over left leg, with the foot flat on ground and
toes pointing forward. Body leans forward but chest should be
reserved. Sword tip, right arm, left shoulder, and left elbow
should all form a straight line.
Movement 8. Turn body and Cloud Sword
A. Both legs straighten to stand up, the whole body pivots
with front parts of both feet, and the torso turns left; then
right leg bends slightly (right foot flat on ground), left knee
bends slightly, and fore-sole of left foot lightly touches
ground, weight on right leg. At the same time, sword moves in a
full circle as body turns, and then right elbow bends so that
sword is parallel to ground, thumb side of hand down. Then left
hand sword finger moves to rest on right wrist. Eyes look at
sword tip (Diagram 37-1)
B. Continuing from above, body leans back, sword moves
counterclockwise to complete a full circle. When sword reaches
front of body, let right palm face up, and loosen the grip so
that sword tip drops. Release left hand sword fingers left thumb
point up, and get ready to shift sword from right hand. Then
weight moves forward, right leg straighten, and body leans
forward. Eyes look at left hand. (Diagram 37-2)
Note: The movements must be continuous, the circular
movement of the sword horizontal and swift, and the wrists should
be relaxed.
Ending Movement.
Right hand places sword handle into left hand, and forms a
sword finger, while left hand grabs sword reversely and drops
handle to the left side of body. At this time, right foot steps
forward and to the right, and toes hook in, with the kneed
slightly bent, and body turning left; left foot then moves to the
front, with fore-sole of left foot lightly resting on ground,
knee bent slightly. As body turns left, right hand sword finger
rises from the back to the upper-right side of head, elbow
slightly bent, palm up. Eyes look horizontally to the left

Note: Weight is on the right leg, body leans forward, back
straight, shoulders relaxed, and left elbow slightly bent. Sword
blade touches left forearm in the back, and sword handle points
vertically to the ground.
Right leg straightens, and right foot steps towards left
foot. Stand up with feet together. Drop right hand sword finger
down to the right with palm down, and return to the ready
position. Eyes look horizotally forward (Diagram 39).

8 Minutes Qigong Exercise:
EAGLE FORM QIGONG

The 8 Minutes Qigong Exercise sets are exercises concentrate
in increasing good health. It was derived from Buddhist qigong
techniques. The 8 Minutes Qigong Exercise sets combined the
breathing, body and mind into one harmony. They emphasize in
applying qi while performing, concentrating while breathing and
breathing while changing. By using these methods, it will help
increase energy and endures the internal organs in preventing
illness.
These exercises are safe, easy to learn, easy to follow and
use only few minutes a day. You can see the result within a short
period of time.
The 8 Minutes Qigong Exercise sets are categorized into 5
elements: Earth, the Gold (Eagle Form Qigong), Water (Dragon Form
Qigong), Wood (Crane Form Qigong), and Fire (Tiger Form Qigong).
Each element requires a workout of 8 minutes a day. You can work
all the elements at one time or select the qigons/elements that
you mostly needed to help your internal organs...
The Eagle Form Qigong, also known as the žFu Tien Jiang
Qigongž concentrates in benefiting the lung and abdomen area. If
combine this exercise with the Earth Element, it is helpful for
increasing lung and abdomenžs mechanism against illness such as
ulcer, arthritis, kidney, high blood pressure, prostate, muscles
soreness, and lung...
Exercise One: Control Qi In Quiet Standing
Control Qi to make it calm, control body to make it soft.
Figure 1: Preparatory movement. Close both feet together, toes
points front, hands hang on side, palms face in.
Figure 2: Quiet Standing. Left leg move side to shoulder width
distance, eyes look front, both lips close up, stand quietly,
relax all both, hands lay normally on side.
Figure 3: Frontal Control. Use concentration and move qi down
once through the different pressure points: from forehead (Tien
Mu Xue), to face (Yin Xiang Xue), to throat (Tien Tu Xue), to
front chest (Tang Zhon Xue), to upper abdomen (Zhon Wan Xue), to
lower abdomen (Qi Hai Xue).
Figure 4: Backbone Control. Use concentration and let the qi
follows the different pressure points going up once: from the
bottom (Jien Lou Xue), to waist (Ming Men Xue), to center of the
back (Da Tuey Xue), to shoulder (Huey ming Xue).

Movement 1. Advance Step, Chop and Thrust
A. Body weight moves back. Body turns right to form
semi-horse stance. At the same time, spear retreats. Eyes look at
spear tip (Diagram 45)
B. Body turns left slightly. Right foot rises and kicks
forward with heel, right toes turn out. At the same time, spear
tip tilts up slightly higher than head. (Diagram 46)
C. Right foot steps down in the front, toes turn out. Both
legs cross and bend half way. At the same time, spear tip chops
down to waist level. (Diagram 47)
D. Left foot steps forward. Right leg straightens and body
turns left to form bow stance. At the same time, do the žZhaž
movement. (Diagram 48)
Note: Heel kick and tilting of spear should be done
together, as well as stepping down and chopping of spear.
Movement 2. Spear End Tilt, Turn Body and Na Zha
A. Body weight moves back. Body turns right to form
semi-horse stance. At the same time, spear retreats. Eyes look at
spare tip (Diagram 49)
B. Body turns left. At the same time, right foot steps
forward; grips of both hands become loose and slide toward middle
of spear so that spear end is extended beyond right hand. As
right foot steps, spear end tilts up on right side of body. At
this time, right arm extends in the front and is as high as
shoulder, right palm faces down. Left hand is at waist level with
palm facing down. Eyes look at spear end. (Diagram 50)
C. Spear end continues to tilt upwards. Right toes turn in,
left knee rises and body turns left 180 degrees. Spear tip stays
on left side of body and circles along as body turns. Eyes look
at spear tip. (Diagram 51)
D. Left foot steps down on left side of body. Right leg
straightens and body turns left to form left bow stance. At the
same time, hands do the žNaž, žZhaž movements. (Diagram 52)
Note: The 180 degree turning of the body with circling of
spear tip is one continuous movement. After tilting of spear end,
right grip slides to spear end.
Movement 3. Side Bow Stance and Chop
A. Body weight moves back. Body turns right to form
semi-horse stance. At the same time, spear retreats. Eyes look at
spear tip. (Diagram 53)
B. Right foot steps behind left foot. At the same time,
spear tip circles down and to the left. Then left foot retrieves
a step. Right leg bends and left leg straightens to form side how
stance. Spear tip continues to circle to the back, up, then chops
down in the front. Spear tip points down, and is at knee level.
Left arm extends with palm facing down, right hand stays on right
side of body. Eyes look at spear tip. (Diagram 54)
Note: Chopping of spear tip and forming of side bow stance
must be together. Left hand presses down during chop, and body
leans slightly forward-right to give more power.

Story of Tao...
A Perfect Life

In a motel restaurant, a poor scholar was sitting alone at a
corner table. He had stopped at his inexpensive motel while on
his way home after having failed an examination. The scholar knew
he would now never have a prestigious official job or marry his
dream girl. So there he sat, reflecting on his misfortune.
A holy man at an adjacent table, hearing the scholaržs
sighs, felt pity for him and gave him a pillow to rest on. The
scholar laid his head on the pillow and as he feel asleep, he
noticed an old lady cooking rice.
As soon as the scholar closed his eyes, he dreamed he had
passed the examination with high grades. He saw himself become a
high government official and marry a beautiful woman. As time
went by he had many children all as healthy and intelligent as
himself. At work he was a good official and was respected by all
his subordinates. At home he was an excellent husband and father
and was loved by his family. By the time he retired, he had
money, fame and posterity. After retirement he took up poetry and
painting, two things he had always wanted to pursue. Then one day
he envisioned himself suddenly dying of old age. It was then that
the poor scholar woke up from his dream.
When he look up, he was surprised to find the old lady still
cooking her rice.
Since life, even a perfect one, is still as short as cooking
some rice, why should we waste time in wishing for a perfect
life? Fortunes comes and goes; so does love. But as life comes,
it goes and is gone. You have already spent much time in pursuing
money and love. Isnžt it time to pay more attention to the joys
of life? Smile when you see the morning sun, smell the scent of
the honeysuckle in the summertime and show a little kindness
toward a squirrel in the woods.

Once Upon A Time In China: Wong Fei Hung

INTRODUCTION
Once Upon A Time In China has to be the single best movie
ever made on Classical Traditional Wushu. It is a definite must
for every Chung Kuo Kuo Shu/Wushu person. I specified
'Traditionalž because it was traditional and not on
Contemporary/Modern Wushu like the classic movie 'Shaolin Tzež -
Shaolin Temple was.
Jet Li was most impressive with his (in my opinion)
unparalleled skill. He wasnžt five-time all China National Wushu
Champion for nothing. Jet Li had a certain charisma and
style/class that made him stand out as the role of the legendary
Wong Fei Hung. He handled his role to perfection. Much different
from all the other Wong Fei Hungžs before, most notably by Kwan
Tuck Hing. For the first time (in my memory) did we see a younger
Wong Fei Hung who fought, living up to the reputation of the true
Wong Fei Hung.
GENERAL
The general story line. The story starts in about 1875 in
FuShan, Kwang Tdung, China. The time when the 'Yeung Yunž,
foreigners were all dropping anchor at the harbors of FuShan. The
other characters involved are historically, Wong Fei Hungžs
thirteenth aunt (he has no blood ties) 'Supp Samm Yeež, Leong
Foon, Lum Sai Wing at 'Tsue Yuk Wingž (Porky Wing) and 'Nga Tsat
Souž (the buck tooth guy). The other main character is 'Yim Tsun
Tdungž - 'Theet Pboe Samž - Iron Robe Yim Sifu of Kwang Tdung. He
is Wong Fei Hungžs main rival.
So, the events of the movie are many. I will now talk about
them. One of the stories is that (sorry, thatžs what it is) the
Americans are getting the Chinese to sign contracts and work in
San Francisco, known then as žGum Tsanž, and literally, 'Mountain
Of Goldž being that there is so much gold there. What in fact was
going on, is that the people who signed up were then chained and
branded and worked as slaves. Wong Fei Hung and his people has
their own part in dealing with that issue.
Next is, Leong Foon (Yuen Biu) has just come from žMui Yuenž
in hope to become Wong Fei Hungžs student, but first ends up
being Yim sifužs student. Yim Sifu is a reputable
martial-artist demonstrating his Wushu ('My Moež) to earn money.
Leong Foon first visit to 'Pboe Tzi Lumž, the Wong family clinic
and Wushu school was humorous when he meets 'Nga Tsat Souž.
Some gangsters from 'Sa Hohž is causing a lot of trouble in
Fushan terrorizing people and collecting protection money. Leong
Foon has a run-in with them and meets up with Lum Sai Wing.
Wong Fei Hung is facing a lot of political problems
currently. He is (historically) the head teacher of the 'Hak Kei
Kwunž - 'Soldiers of the Black Flagž which is part of the Navy.
The commander of the 'Hak Kei Kwunž, Lou Weng Fook is sent to
defend Vietnam and the 'Hak Kei Kwunž is to be dispersed. Lou
Weng Fook then pleads to Wong Fei Hung to continue to train the
sailors so that when the enemy attacks, they can still (quote)
'Pboe Ga Wai Kwokž - 'Protect the family and defend the countryž.
Wong Fei Hung of course agrees and the 'Hak Kei Kwunž then
becomes the very famous 'Mun Tuenž - 'Local Militiaž. This is
where Wong Fei Hung gets the title 'Mun Tuen Tsung Kow Lienž -
'Head Trainer Of The Local Militiaž. This all happens in the
beginning of the movie. Following wasthe introduction title and
ever so famous song of Wong Fei Hung now known as 'Nam Yee Tdong
Tze Kyeungž. The intro is Wong Fei Hung leading the 'Hak Kei
Kwunž in training, performing a very nice, what seems to be, a
Northern Shaolin form. If anyone can identify it, please let me
know. The intro was inspirational at the least.
There is a new government official in charge after Lou Weng
Fook and he does not like Wong Fei Hung, and tries to nail him or
to blame him for everything that might even remotely be related
to him.
DEVELOPMENTS
There is also a lot of character development in the movie.
The main one being between Wong Fei Hung and Supp Samm Yee whose
name is 'Siu Kwunž translated as Peony. She has just returned
from England after two years. She and Fei Hung had not seen each
other in many years but grew up together. Fei Hungžs uncle kind
of 'leaves her with himž. So now Fei Hung has to take care of
Peony. You see, Peony came back because she misses Fei Hung and
she is in love with him. Fei Hung also soon realizes that his
feelings for her are not that simple. He does care deeply for
her. Their relationship develops very nicely over the five
movies. Peony is acted by Kwan Tze Lum.
One of the incidents of interest is when Wong Fei Hung
catches the leader of the gangsters and tries to bring him to the
'Nga Moonž, the 'police stationž of that day. He catches the guy,
but when has asks all the people around him to be a witness, they
all left. Even the restaurant owner who is a victim claims that
he 'didnžt see anythingž. Fei Hung later then meets a priest who
tells him to believe in Christ and God. Fei Hung then tells the
priest that he had caught a bad person that day. He then asked if
God could be his witness. The priest couldnžt answer and Fei Hung
left. Later, the gangsters burns Pboe Tzi Lum and the priest
comes up to be his witness as he had seen who burned Pboe Tzi
Lum.
WUSHU
Now I will talk about the Wushu and fighting. The fighting
was just simply the best. I had never seen Traditional Wushu
performed with such perfection, speed and power. Jet Li
apparently cooled down on his aggressiveness for his role. He is
now cool and classy when he fights. From all of the movies of his
that I have seen, his role here of Wong Fei Hung has brought out
the best techniques from him. For those of you who have seen his
earlier movies from the three Shaolin Temple movies to The
Master, you will find there is quite a change from the
contemporary to the modern and now to classical traditional.
There were three major fight scenes in the movie. There were
another two fight scenes. One of which Jet Li performed Wong Fei
Hungžs 'Moe Ying Gyeukž. For those of you who donžt know, 'Moe
Ying Gyeukž - 'Shadowless Kickž was the most famous and feared
technique created by Wong Fei Hung himself. The other famous
technique that he created was 'Supp Tze Kuenž - 'Cross Fistsž,
which Jet Li also performed. The 'Moe Ying Gyeukž is and aerial
triple kick.
There was an excellent mass-opponents fight near the
beginning when the American trader Jackson and the Sa Hoh
gangsters send people to kill Wong Fei Hung at an Opera theater.
Pure technique. There was this amazing stunt when on a bench, Jet
Li does a 'Shuen Foong Thuiž - Hurricane Kick with a side kick
and lands in a split, on the bench. Here too, Jet Li likes to use
the Butterfly Kick with a full twist as he did in almost all his
movies.
Yim Tsun Tdung was challenged by a (broad)sword (Dao) master
of Mok Ga. The Mok Ga master was no match for Yim Tsun Tdung.
Yim Tsun Tdung went to challenge Wong Fei Hung in Pboe Tzi
Lum. He wanted to 'show the people of FuShan that Yim Ga Wushu is
undisputed'. They fought. Due to distraction from Leong Foon and
Peony, Wong Fei Hung lost the fight. Yim Sifu was not satisfied
and challenged him to another fight.
The showdown between Wong Fei Hung and Yim Tsun Tdung is
definitely in the hall of fam of perfect choreographing and
improvising. It just has to be seen. There was one amazing
technique that Wong Fei Hung used though. It couldnžt really be
done so they used perfect editing to make it look like it good.
The technique was 'Lien Wan (Chuen Sum) Thuiž. It is a
horizontal, rotating in a twist (hence, Lien Wan) multi-kick.
The best single movement Ižve ever seen in any martial-arts
movie is in the showdown. It is one of my two favorite fight
scenes of all-time. It starts from the part Yim Sifu pushes the
weighing machine at Wong Fei Hung until the part Wong Fei Hung
uses Crane techniques, Cross Fists and finishes Yim Sifu off with
and arm-break, 'Biu Souž to the (Jiquan) armpit and Crane wrist
to the ribs.
THE LEAD
About Jet Ližs Wong Fei Hung in general, he is absolutely
confident, and absolutely humble. Jet Ližs Wong Fei Hung is one
that only he hits and beats people, and no one hits or beats him.
But of course hežs been hit in this movie, four times. Two of
them, Yim Sifu cheated. Jet Ližs Wong Fei Hung shows the
character of a true master. He only exerts as much level of
technique necessary to subdue his adversaries. He does not set
out to ždemolishž his adversaries like Donnie Yen does. All the
fights he had against Yim Tsun Tdong, he was on the defensive
most of the time except for one moment.
All in all, this is an affirmative must-see for all. It was
a long movie though. But Jet Li here is worth all the little over
two hours of yours.

Enlightenment For The Martial Artist
------------------------------------

Physical proficiency is not the only goal of the martial
artist. Because he had to daily deal with issues of life and
death, killing and dying, individual enlightenment was also the
gaol. But how can we actually tune in with Higher Power, and live
in a more enlightened way? Fighting techniques and breathing
exercises is not enough. You must learn that it is mostly your
state of mind, your attitude. There are 4 stages in this
exercise, it is geared to help everyone in different martial
skill level to achieve in enlightening ones mind.
Stage One: Take 5 minutes to relax your body, relax your
mind, think about your goals. Then softly repeat to yourself, 'I
can do this! It will be easy. I can do this!' Or use a statement
like, 'Ižm always improving, always getting better. I will do my
best.' We can also give suggestions to others by compliments,
criticism, and by spreading rumors.
Stage Two: Take a goal or more than one goal, and see it in
your mind, and feel how it will be when it is completed,
accomplished. And say to yourself, 'It is already done! this, or
something better is already done!' Then go on about your normal
daily activities, but trust the Universe to bring this about.
Stage Three: At this point, we know regardless of
appearances (the way things seem), there is an inner perfection,
a real pattern of perfection that we keep our minds focused on.
Such as the perfect block, or the perfect kick, etc. We know that
behind the scenes there is a Higher Power always working for our
greater good, and we therefore trust life. This attitude is seen
in such arts as Aikido and Taijiquan. At this stage, you start
focusing your mind in one object while performing other and by
developing an attitude of trusting life.
State Four: Mu-Shin (No-Mind in Japanese). This is the level
of the non-reactive mind. The mind that does not panic nor is
surprised. you are aware of whatžs going on but not all caught
up. You do the techniques you have to for self-defense, but itžs
nothing personal. Even getting hit is just part of the fight, and
you go on. Just silent meditation is the best exercise for this
stage.
There you are, the Enlightenment Way. You may stay at one
stage for months or longer. Itžs up to you. Some people get
miraculous results right away. But I guarantee everyone will get
results if they continuously practice.

HOW TO DO INTERNAL FIGHTING

1. Learn the actual body dynamics behind internal fighting. Add
the internal to the style you're already in. You'll have cat
reflexes, and natural explosive movements.
2. You really don't have to be athletic to learn. This is how Old
Masters are still able to defend themselves, and women can too!
How to energize your body. Use basic Knockout points.
3. Understand the difference between Karate and Kungfu, and the
difference between Judo and Wrestling, and be able to use the
best points of each.
4. Dip, jerk, retract, circle, flick: words like this and others
that spell death to your opponent. The little tricks Master and
Tournaments Champions won't tell you but even a beginner can do.
You won't reach a master level without this information.
