A body-builder or weight-lifter who bench presses 400 lbs. etc,
can win against a Martial Artist (even the advanced ones with
secret techniques) if the former sets his mind to doing it.
For example, all he has to do is hold the right arm of
the martial artist and all his art is gone. Because anybody's
martial art exists only in their right arm. Also, a guy who
is strong and lifts heavy weights, if he slaps your face
you are gonna be injured and forget your martial art.

Interesting.

I've found that the really big, strong guys are better prepared to
fight, but don't exactly have the skills to accomplish the task unless
taught properly. They will fall back on brute strenght rather then
technique. IMO, technique will get you a lot further then being able
to push a lot of iron in the gym.

3.5.

Vaguely amusing in a profoundly retarded way, but mostly just weak.

You need to talk less and shut up more.

thats stupid. You obviously must not know much about martial arts.
If martial arts didnt work for the weak and small against the big and
strong there would be no point to learn them. No one would have ever
invented them. Not only this but a big guy who is going to grab the
arm has to close the gap first. And, by the time he grabs the arm i
guarantee you he will have been hit several times. Also, many people
like filipino and indonesian arts like to elbow and punch the other
guys punching arm which disables it, so all the better. Grabbing
someone who knows what to do is giving all your weapons up. Grab one
arm you have one less to use, two, no arms. Also, big guys who are
just bodybuilders dont usually know what to do in a fight. They will
try to pick you up and squeeze you as hard as they can but some people
who have no experience can just wait till they're tired and they drop
them because they will get tired eventually. I could talk on forever
but there is no point. My instructor is about 145 pounds and worked
as a bodyguard for awhile in holland so he had to know what to do
against the huge dutch guys and like he says, if it doesnt work, why
learn it?

Personally, I'm more worried about ninja's, Godzilla, lustful robots,
asteroids, jesus hurling pieces of the true cross at my eye - that
kind thing.

Hey, I fought that guy! I "won" the fight without having to throw a
single punch. He gave me his best 1-2, yellow-belt-in-karate style,
about 6" above my head, delivered with a frightful kiai. By the time
the tears of my laughter had cleared, he'd fucked off.

The bodybuilder type would be a nice standing punching bag for the martial
artist. Time and time again you gotta have the techniques to go with your
strength and speed.

A Saint Bernard ain't gonna beat a Pitbull.
Fighters are a different breed!

i've read this thread and most of the responses are bullshit.
i work with a weight lifter. 26yr 5'9-10" 280-295#. i dought
he's ever considered bear hugging anyone, his thoughts on
fights drift more twords arm breaking.
your art won't work on such a person.
i wear xl gloves and the only place i can get any kind of
grip is the wrist joint.and i would hate to think i had to control
him with that. plus he can power out of most anything i can
think of.
make a nice standing heavy bag? nah, he moves pruty fast.
once somebody like that gets any kind of grip on you, your
getting hurt.
to beat one of these guys you would need a high degree of
skill, be in excellent condition, and be very strong yourself.
otherwise your blowing smoke up your own ass.
think about bill kasmier throwing full beer kegs 10-15 feet.
just what do you think would happen if you popped old bill
in the snot locker?
i bet theres a gym near you, if you want to test anything.
i'm sure you could find a volenteer.
yeah i,m lifting weights now.

Corey Says-

Having an athletic body is a big advantage. Knowing how to fight is a big
advantage. That's why I do both. I would be more intimidated by a gymnast or
grappler who does the conditioning , than a weight lifter, because they have
more functional strength, endurance and flexibility. end.
