All,

Does anyone know of a Muay Thai instructor in Virginia. I live in
Harrisonburg and i knew that there used to be one in Staunton (which is
30mins away). However, as far as i know hes not still teaching. anyone else
know of one?

Norlyn

p.s. I've studied Ving Tsun, boxing and BJJ at a Gracie training academy,
looking to round out my skills. THANKS!

I know of two in Virginia. Master Kay (sp?) and Master Pham. I think
Master Kay's top guy has taken over teaching and operates out of Lorton
(last I heard), his name is Tanam (sp?). I'm not sure how to contact
either but that may give something to start with.

The place you are talking about in Lorton is --

Owens Academy of Korean Martial Arts and Self Defense
8924 Telegraph Road
Lorton, VA 22079
(703) 550-8633/34

They rent the place out for Muay Thai training Tuesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays, and Sundays. These would be the best time to call. When I was
there a guy named Jason Hartigan (Master K's student) was the one teaching.
Thanom Bodhiprasart is the other fella you are talking about. Master K
(Kumron Vaitayanon) is still actively teaching the Sat/Sun classes as far as
I know.

The only other MT schools I know of are in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.

*Big Grin* I used to work with Thanom at a computer tech support place
near Tyson's Corner. Another of Master K's students, Jason Kalievas also
worked there. Jason was a good buddy of mine, that's how I first heard of
Master K.

Did you ever train with any of them? I was lucky enough to train a little
w/Thanom, Brooks, and Jeff Ruth. Thanom is the only person that has ever
caught me with a shin to the forehead. I'm almost 6'4"... I still don't know
how he did it. :-)

I trained with Jason (Kalievas) quite a bit. Met Brooks once over at
Jason's house. Very intense guy. Never got the chance to train with
Thanom.
