Ok, I mentioned that I had read that Mr. Dux had gotten beaten up...
I had a lot of Email requests to dig out the old magazines and post the
article in question. Well, I did, and here tis...
Here is the exact magazine article in question:
Taken from Karate International
Magazine Nov 1993 from Jay T. Will's column "Kempo Korner":
"UNREST AT THE MARTIAL ARTS TRADE SHOW.
---------------------------------------
At the second annual Draka Martial Arts Trade Show held at the Century
City Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California, a skirmish broke out between
Kenpo Black Belt and WKA's #1 rated heavyweight kickboxing contender Zane
Frazier and Grand Master Frank W. Dux. As many of you know, Frank Dux is
the character the film "Blood Sport" was modeled after. According to
several well known black belts (Frank Trejo, Ray Wizzard) present at the
incident, Dux moved in on Frazier and Frazier hit Dux several times in the
face dropping Dux to the floor. Frazier finished the action by body
slamming him into the next booth. Security officials restored order to
the trade show with no further incidents. Glad to hear Zane survived the
incident without serious injury."

This article was like an ad in the classified section of a newspaper.
Nothing exciteing. Interesting to note... Zane Frazier was in UFC I, and
was defeated by Kevin Rosier. Ray Wizzard was in UFCII I believe, but I've
never seen his fight...
Gee, I hope Zane didn't hurt his hands or strain his back.
Hey, if Frank Dux is the "World Champion of the Real Bloodsport", why
doesn't he enter the UFC ? Also, where are all the fighters that he
defeated ??? Why haven't they signed for the UFC? Guess Mr. Dux's
imagination couldn't produce the real goods... :-)

Hmm... If Dux was the full-contact stud who was beaten by Frazier, who
was beaten by Rosier, does that mean that a fat over-the-hill imitation
kickboxer could have been the star of "Blood Sport"? Zane didn't look
that good. Rosier looked plain terrible. Wizzard couldn't make it past
the prelminaries of UFC II. This is getting kinda pathetic.

I don't mean to defend Frank Dux or anything, but maybe he doesn't enter
all this stuff cause he' s getting older. Maybe that's why he got his ass
kicked too. I don't know - I'm just speculating. All I know about him is
from the movie. But if I remember right, that came out in the mid 80's,
which was probably a couple years after it happened, and didn't he enter
it for 4 years or so? So if he first entered it at age 20 let's say, then he'd
be almost 35. Not the he's a geriatric case, but I'm sure he's no where
near his prime. Heck, I'm only 28 and no where near my prime - when ever
that was. Anyway, it was just a thought.
Secondly, from what the article says, Dux "attacked" first, right? If so,
then in my opinion he deserved an ass kicking. Maybe the other guy
deserves one too. I don't know. But what I'm getting at is that a grown
man - ecpecially a professional MAist - should be able to control his
emotions, etc. enough to walk away. I mean I was always taught that
the goal of MA is not to fight. That's why you usually don't see masters
running around going "Asshole! Come on tough guy! I'll kick your ass!"
But to start a fight in front of a whole trade show full of people and cause a
big scene (enough to be mentioned in a magazine) takes someone even
more immature than your average "Tough Guy". Come on - grow up!
But I could be wrong...It's happened before.

Unless it's on rec.martial-arts, of course.

Since he was "retired" and running a dojo a good 15 years ago, I'm guessing
he's fourty-something. Now, if only his first name was George...
>Secondly, from what the article says, Dux "attacked" first, right?
Since I haven't been around, can anyone pull out a copy of "the article"
and pass it on?
Thanks,
