Does anyone know of a good school (preferrably on the South Side)?

Thanks,

How far south are you? The Judo dojo I belong to meets in Steger at Bloom Trail H.S. (south suburbs). There is also a school in Oak Lawn at the Park district, and in the south loop (300 S. Wabash ave.). The only Jujutsu school I know of in the area meets at the Chicago Heights park district (Rt.30 & Halsted).

E-mail me if you'd like to ask any more specific questions.

The best way to find a good judo school near you is to contact the United
States Judo Association at telephone (719) 633-7750 and ask for a list.

First of all, Uptown Dojo is no longer in Uptown. I know that the Cohen
brothers, et al, have a new school in Buffalo Grove, although I'm not
sure if the name is still Uptown Dojo. This would be a great place to
train if you want to do competitive Judo.

If you want to learn Judo and JuiJitsu for self-defense (as contrasted
with tournaments), and/or if you don't want to drive to Buffalo Grove, go
to Degerberg Academy in Chicago. It is one of the finest martial arts
schools anywhere (they teach at least ten different arts), and they have
at least three Judo or JiuJitsu classes every week. You can reach them at
312/728-5300.

Good luck.
