Howdy y'all,

I'm new to the group but I've been lurking for a little while. I have
a very small collection of knives that I've acquired over the
years...not because I thought they were collectibles but because I
liked them. One of these knives is a large Al Mar folder. It's approx.
10" long with a blade length of approx. 4.5". I've had this knife
since the mid 80s (I think...can't really remember when I got it) and
don't know much about it. I can't figure out how to post a picture of
it so if you can email me I'll send you my scanned pic of it. Any help
would be appreciated.

BTW, my newest acquisitions are in the mail to me:

Benchmade 942SBT (bought from Knife Outlet...best price on the web)
Case 284 Baby Butterbean / Natural Bone Series (bought from
theknifestore.com)

Thanks,
Pete

It could be the Al Mar Angler or Passport .. though I think the passport
might have been newer than mid-80's.

Angler:

Passport:

Maybe you have the same Knife as Specops.. he has one with similar
dimensions.. i think he said his was an Angler, but then after looking at it
a bit longer said it wasn't.

What does the Al Mar look like?
There was a Woodsman model....one-piece Zytel handle (black with
checkering) Mid or backlock, spear point ATS34 blade. About the size
you mentioned. Early 90s,I think I got mind....but they could have
been around for a while, then.

Just remembered, there was another one in the same series....the
Sportsman. Similar construction but with (I think) a drop-point blade.
Series was "Airweight" or similar.

too bad this site is in mostly japanese, it has good pictures, and all al

It looks like the largest folder in this pic but without the special
markings on the handle and blade:

It is the Al Mar Attack III Midlock. I think those were special editions
that came out with the markings. The regular edition of the Attacks didn't
have them.

Got this from Corwin, thanks for all your help. It's a great
knife...fun to look at...not very practical for EDC <g>. I'll put up a
list of the knives I have that might be of interest to y'all. For
right now...I'll enjoy the 4th by watching old war movies on TCM.
Happy 4th to y'all (I'm an Okie...thus the y'all).

I can't access the page without downloading a program. Chose not too.
But what are the markings referred to?
Mine was a very early one....had the SF emblem on the bolster. Can't
remember a blade marking.

I dont think there were any Markings on the blade besides the Al Mar and
chinese signature, But it was the SF Logo that was on the bolster, His did
not have the SF logo but did have the al mar sig.

Thanks. Mine had both.....just remembered Al's "chop" on the blade.
Have often wondered why they took the logo off the bolster. Pressure
from someone??
Actually, my smaller )middle-size) model had the logo, too. Bought in
the same year.
Great knives..mediocre steel, though. Both of mine went in trade to a
serving US SF bloke.

Just a follow-up: Corwin identified the knife as an Al Mar Attack III
Midlock. Thanks for all y'all's responses.

I'm not sure why they took the logo off the bolster... I do recall that they
ran the knife til the early 90's tho.. (i think).. I actually thought the
ones with the SF logo were special editions, but then i wasn't around
collecting knives at the time so i dunno.

Yeah, I am pretty sure all the first editions were marked.
I suspect the SF people may have pressed to have it
"de-commercialized". Don't know, though.
