I have a flashback & I really like it. It's pretty tough but I have still
managed to snap a couple leading edges. These were all under extreme
circumstances 20 mph winds doing a supersonic ground pass right into a
crashing wave. oops! Kite shop fixed that one for free 8u)
I can't really give a testimony as to the beginner to advanced claim, (it's
my only 2 line kite) It is really easy to change the bridle for slow or
extreme turning. You may be better off with this kite or some other kite
that's bigger than what you'll get for 30 bones. Smaller kites tend to be
very fast & may take longer to learn as a result. Also the stronger pull
might make it easier to get the "feel" of balancing line tension. If you
have never flown a stunt kite, the first "trick" to learn is how to fly
straight. Good luck !

Hi Mathew, if you are looking for a kite that is worth anything, larger than a
Beetle, but around $20-30, there really is nothing available from what i have
seen.

I do however, have a new design called the Firecracker. Just a tiny bit smaller
than the Beetle, but with a stronger frame and larger windrange and much deeper
sail for better performance. Durable Plastic nose piece like the Beetle.
Many shops are starting to replace the Beetle with this one now because it
costs less and they feel it flys better. I agree. It includes "Braided Dacron
Lines" not twisted.

If you dont mind paying $50-$60, check out my new Nitro, 4mm solid carbon,
3-18mph, 4 real standoffs, and larger than the beetle including 100% spectra
Ready To fly Lines on a nice winder and good comfortable straps.

Although experienced fliers can "Trick" these smaller kites, this is the
furthest thing in the mind of a first time flier. It is important to have a
durable kite with a good wind range and good lines. That is the most important
thing at this time.
Once you have some flying time in, then its time to take a look at something
more advanced. In the past, a new flier would have to spend as much as $150 and
more to achieve this. Not so anymore. Many companies offer good sport kites
over 7' for around $100.

For your second kite, line is important. Spectra has less stretch and friction
between the lines as the cross, and will give you the best performance.

If you dont mind paying around $100 for the latest in sport kite design
including Spectra lines, I highly recommend the Dynamite. It is starting to
become popular since we started showing it, and they have just arrived in the
States and are just getting to the shops now.

For someones first sport kite, I recommend the Firecracker or Nitro. For your
second, I recommend the Dynamite although many first time fliers will buy it as
well because of the look of it and they way it is presented in the promotional
video.

For those who want to get started for under $20, we offer the Ignitor. Simple
graphics, but with a 4mm solid fiberglass frame, 4'wingspan and braided lines.
And it flys very good.

At this price and performance, this is a sport kite that will end up in every
fliers kite bag for first time flier training.

For more info on the Explosive series by Dodd Gross manufactured by the new,

Hope that helps

How tough is the Nitro? Is it going to stand up to crashes as
well as the Firecracker (or the Beetle)?
And how difficult is it for beginners to setup and takedown
these kites? I have heard that the Nitro (and the Beetle)
aren't the easiest things in the world to setup.

The Nitro is a little larger than the my Firecracker, same frame and fittings,
it does have 4 standoffs.
The Beetle uses a line sewn on the end of the sail, loops over the arrow nock
and secured with a rubber cap.
With these plastic noses you must remove the leading edge rod from the nose in
order to fold up the kite for the bag.
The Nitro and Firecracker use a rubber ring that loops over the nock. No cap.
People loose caps and you cant secure the leading edge.

The rubber rings could break eventually, but they also have a line called a
pull line which can be used to secure the leading edge if the ring breaks.
Both systems work, both have flaws, but they are under $50 kites framed in
carbon that fly well.
We now use a velcro release spine on the nitro, so the Nitro is has a lot of
features that the Beetle does not have. A lot of stores still sell the Beetle,
but as I have seen in the past 3 weeks, once a shop gets a hold of the
Firecracker and Nitro, they see the quality and performance and price
difference and are starting to replace the popular Beetle that has been around
awhile now. THe Firecracker comes with Braided dacron lines (not twisted) and
the Nitro comes with 100% Spectra, Sleeved measured and tied on a nice winder
with good comfortable straps and designer sleeve similar to the more expensive
kites you see in the shops. If this is your first kite, get the Firecracker or
the Nitro, and if you choose the Beetle, they fly good and its a nice kite, it
uses a thiner frame so the higher end is not as high as the solid 4mm carbon
frames the Firecracker and Nitro use. If this is your second sport kite, forget
these and go for the Dynamite. It too comes with 100% spectra RTF line set and
designer bag, and IMO is the most advanced $100 sport kite available at this
time. The response on all of the Explosive Series manufactured by the NEW NEW
TECH KITES and I am very proud and happy to be working with a company that #1
appreciates my efforts and talents, #2 is very dedicated to being the very best
manufacturer, and I believe in time, we will achieve that high goal. If I can
be of any further assistance, just drop me an email.
Even if you choose the beetle!

Hope that helps
