Anyone any tips on this?
I've always found it looks pretty cool but always been afraid of taking
out my eye or something :p

A few specific questions:
Where is the best place to throw to balance? forehead, nose or chin? My
best balance is on my nose if that helps, my chin is ok and can't really
do it on my forehead.
Are there any progressional steps that can be taken to break it down?
Obviously i'll be working on it with one club first, but anything else? i
was thinking to try to place it, not throw it at first and try to get that
into a solid balance at first and then gradually throw it from further
away and hopefully move up to the full throw
Finally, should you catch the club by the butt (wrong way around) to
throw it up? As in, is it easier that way?

Thanks for any input guys :)

I vote forehead, even though right now it's not your favorite place. It's
definitely your biggest target. Notice Evgeni Biljauer at 2:35 with the
masterful catching of a ring on his forehead:

I thought I saw Tony Pezzo and Wes Peden doing similar in the gym. For
clubs I've seen others catching a club in your hand on the body end then
throwing a (gentle) half spin to the forehead. Remember that you're not
really 'catching' as much as 'cradling' the prop to your face.

It's one of those tricks that's so cool that you want to learn it, until
you smack yourself in the eye and decide there's other things you could be
doing...

My only recommendation is to learn it first with a peacock feather. It
is much slower and safer. The skill will transfer very well - at least
it has for me. Not on that particular trick but I can now balance a
club on each hand. I do not believe I would have ever learned that
without first learning it with the feather.

The first time I saw my wife I knew she was "Miss Right"
After we were married, I learned her first name is "Always"

I just took a piece of cardboard* and cut an oval about 18" long and the
width of a baseball cap bill. Use the bill to lay out the curve on each
end, cup the thing slightly along the long axis and learn to throw to a
hand balance then go for it. You may want to put tape on the edge to
minimize the frayed edge material from falling into your eyes (guess how
I thought of that).

Total time from conception to a first successful face catch = 10 minutes.

*the only reason I drink beer is the cartons are so handy.

This is a trick I have been working on for about 3 months now, and I have
got it pretty solid.

My tip is to start with one club, palm up, held by the "bell" of the club,
not the knob. Hold the club parallel to the ground and touch the knob to
your forhead (or wherever you want to throw to, I like the head, as said
before is a bigger target than the nose or chin, but with practice I am
sure you can do anything) now that the knob is touching where you want the
club to be balanced, "throw" the bell of the club up to be perpendicular
to the ground.

When you can do this to a balance, then just start placing the knob just a
little further from your balance spot. Soon you will discover that just
like catching an egg you will have to soften the landing of the club as to
not give yourself bruises on your face. I had the club land hundreds of
times in my eye, but no injuries were sustained, just temporary
disappointment, just don't stop trying!!

When coming out of a pattern, I usually start bu catching the club I want
to throw to a balance by the "wrong" end, again, palm is up (thumb on the
left and fingers on the right-for righties)

That is all.

Its one of my favorite tricks

Dunno, David Cain would know, he keeps all that stuff. Evgeni came to an
IJA fest years ago and brought that video and another of him practicing.
The practice was unbelievable, 45 minutes and I don't remember a single
drop.
