I was researching World Clown Association Liability Insurance today,
and looking at the $30 cost to adding a client as an additional
insured for an event.

>From time to time, a client will want proof of my liability insurance,
while other times the client will want proof of my liability insurance
listing the client as an additional insured.

My question is, if World Clown charges this fee for adding the client
on, would the best way to approach this to be to tell the client that
there is a fee if they want to be listed, and then tack that cost onto
my price for the event, ie X dollars for the show+$30 add on. My
guess is the performer should just built that into the fee and the
client should know they will be charged for that.

I hear about World Clown the most, and I did verify that they do
covers jugglers, stilt-walkers, etc. who are not clowns in the
business.

I scanned rec, and found this one listed. Anybody use them?

Are there people here who use World Clown who have good things to say
about them?

Thank you,

World clown is the least expensive we have found and this is who we
use. I cannot vouch for the coverage as we have never used it for a
claim. It does satisfy the client and that is what is important until
the policy gets challenged.

Here is a question: Has anyone ever been actually sued for an action
or accident and what was the result?

The IJA offers liability insurance to its members. $150 per year for 1
million in coverage. There is NO
additional fee for additional insureds. There is even coverage for your
juggling equipment and office
equipment if you work out of your home! Anyone who may be interested email
me at laird at juggle
dot org and I'l send you all the details.

This insurance is not only available for performers, but the IJA also
offers a club/fest policy as well
(the price varies according to length of fest, etc.).

I don't mean this to sound like a commercial, but the IJA has the
insurance that is needed so I thought
I'd spread the word.

This is brand, brand, new isn't it, Kim? I talked to Rick Purtee and he
said that the IJA had dropped the insurance program because of lack of
interest. Anyway, I'm glad it exists, now!

We've had this insurance available since July. It is true I was trying to
get insurance through a different
company for IJA members and with the minimum number of people who needed
to sign up for that
insurance (plus the premium was $300 per year) it just didn't work out.
The IJA dropped the offering,
but I didn't give up on finding a company to insure our members
(performers, hobbyists, and clubs).

A few weeks after the insurance offering was dropped the IJA got a call
out of the blue from an
insurance agent who read an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer about
jugglers. Their company already
insured other mobile entertainers such as DJs and he felt he could offer
us a competitive policy...and
he has. The agent who worked with me on this also came to Winston-Salem
and did an insurance
workshop during the fest! That workshop ended up comparing the clown
insurance offering to the IJA
offering. Those in attendance felt the IJA insurance covered more and cost
less.

Bottom line is, the IJA does now offer performer, hobbyist, and club
insurance. It is $150 per year for
1 million in coverage for individuals/performers. Club/fest insurance
varies according to the length of
the fest and other fest factors, but it is available. The Philadelphia
Jugglers Club is an IJA insurance
member since they got the IJA insurance for their fest coverage. I proud
the IJA can offer this
insurance as a member benefit!
