If you are interested, please e-mail me privately, and I will pass the
information along to whoever ends up organising this.
PS It is only OK to set fire to the Stanford Marching Band if they turn
vicious.

Extravaganza that will be happening in San Francisco on April 5th at the

perform on opening day for the SF Giants. But we are going to make a
spectacle of ourselves and hopefully a lot of others.
>
>The idea is this.... We have a musical juggling number for
orchestra/band and Jugglers ( it was the original closer to our
adaptation of Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errrors) called BP2. We will
perform this piece with UC Berkeley Marching Band ( over a hundred
pieces) and 40 jugglers or so (not including the four of us).
>
>For the jugglers it would involve learning a piece of juggling music
before the first rehearsal with the band which would happen on the late
afternoon/early evening of April 4th at Giants Stadium (in the parking
lot). The game is on the afternoon of the 5th.
>
>For the show we would enter the stadium with the band doing a club
swinging/juggling march into position with the band playing a Cal Band
Fight Song . Once in position we perform BP2. We finish the main number
and then march back to another UC Cal fight song. About twenty minutes
later we march on the with the band and an enormous flag is unfurled in
the outfield. With ready torches we jugglers surround the flag on all
sides. The band plays "Americia the Beautiful". One torch is lit and
that torch lights the next one to its side until around the flag all the
torhces are lit. Then all the jugglers juggle the torches in rhythm to
the song.

I'm the person organizing this group of 40 jugglers for the Giants'
home opener, so if you're interested in being part of this fun
extravaganza with the FKB you can contact me directly at:
Here's a correction to Andrew's comments. There will only be one
rehearsal with all 40 jugglers getting together, on April 4 at Pac
Bell Park in San Francisco, probably in the evening.
I think you'll only have to juggle for about 5 minutes during the
extravaganza, during two songs. A key requirement is that you can
juggle in rhythm with the music that is playing.
You will need to rehearse on your own or in groups before April 4 to
master a slightly complex 3-club-juggling rhythm (8 throws) that the
FKB have used. And you'll have to juggle it in rhythm with the music.
Starting right handed, the pattern is:
double, double, single, double, single, double, single, single.
By the way, it will be the (not-so-infamous) Cal band, not the
Stanford band at the game, which will be televised on FSN according to
the Giant's home page.
If you want to take part and are available on the evening of April 4
and during midday on April 5 and you can juggle clubs and torches
well, please contact me immediately, as the show is less than two
weeks off. The pay is indeed $75 per juggler. Should be fun.

I have set up a web page with details on the juggling in the show, for
anyone who might be interested in participating:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/juggle/fkbshow.html
If you know anyone who might be interested, point them at the above
web page for into or have them contact me, preferably by email but
alternatively by phone at 650-712-4454 between 10am and 10pm.
We'll be practicing at the SF circus school at the regular juggling
meeting tomorrow evening (Sunday), and at the Isla Vista fest next
weekend. Also at Stanford on Wednesdays. See the page above for info.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I encourage any of you within striking distance of this to jump in and do it.
Last year, the University of Minnesota's marching band celebrated its
150th anniversary, and invited local jugglers (and unicyclists and
stiltwalkers) to take part in two (US) football halftime events - one
college, the other professional. Seeing this from the field is an
unforgettable experience, and looks mighty strong on the old performance
resume, too.
Go for it! It'll be a laugh and a half!
