How about Las Vegas - January 1995, July 1995, January 1996? That's three
IJA festivals in 13 months. All right, I'm not being fair as the Winter
festival is *always* in Vegas, because the first week in January in Vegas
is a cheap and easy place to hold a festival - the juggling space is free.
Holding this festival in the same place every year makes it easy to
organise, and the IJA is able to keep its overheads down to a mere $4,000.
Apart from the Winter festival, the last time an IJA summer festival was in
Vegas was 1984 - returning to a city after eleven years does not seem
unreasonable, though both the 84 and 95 festivals were relatively poorly
attended.
Looking at wider geographical distribution, some areas seem to get an undue
amount of attention, and some are largely ignored. There has not been a
festival in the South since Atlanta in 1985, however there was a festival
in North Dakota in 1993, and one in South Dakota due in 1996.
The festival locations are chosen by the IJA's paid festival co-ordinator,
Ginny Rose, and are rubber stamped by the board.

For 1996 we wanted to go back to St. Louis since that was a BIG turnout
but the school pulled out of the contract at the last second leaving us to go
with the second runner-up ["Something?] City, South Dakota.
Ginny Rose, IJA Festival Coordinator, spends the year investigating cities
and their respective festival locations (civic centers/colleges) and comes up
with a list of recommendations which is submitted to the board of directors.
She is the resident expert in what is necessary for a festival of this size
to be
successfully pulled off.
