Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for a new set of beanbags. I currently use Mr. Babache squosh
balls (~130g) and I'd like to upgrade to ultraleather. I run a fairly
stable 7 ball cascade and want to start working on 9 again, but I prefer
normal sized bags to numbers balls so I can keep playing with 3. Can
anyone tell me the difference between (or pros and cons to having) Sportco
bags, Gballz, and Renegade 12-panel smooth leather bags?

Thanks!

No, but I would highly recommend the Flanny Bags from this website:

I own a set of gballz, and have used a friends sportco balls. I don't
think there is much of a difference between how they handle. If I was to
buy another set I'd probably go with gballz again because they have more
colors to choose from, and Gregory (the guy who makes Gballz) is a pretty
cool guy.

Agreed. I have a set of gballz and they're really nice. But I also have
a set of Nords and those are also top notch. It's personal choice, of
course. Try out different types in person and decide for yourself.

I've used a lot of different balls over the 25+ year's I've been juggling.

I've used (Not necessarily owned, but used) Fergies, Sport Co, Gballz and
several other hand made bags.

My opinion is:

If you have a high quality, hand made bag, made from a well known vendor you
will end up with a good bag you can be happy with. They are all pretty
similar.

Gballz and Sportco are basically the same, though the Gballz have "Gballz"
branded into them, and Cheryl says this might weaken the leather and cause
them to break at some point. But, there's basically no difference at all.

The only real differences between the GBallz and SportCo balls is your
color options and the final stitch. I'm not sure what type of final
stitch that the BagLady balls have.

Gregory from GBallz does a "ladder" stitch so, when juggling, the
final stitch in indistinguishable from the rest of the ball but, is
visible when holding it.

Cheryl from SportCo uses a "whip-stitch", which leaves a seam that you
can feel when holding the ball. This is only really noticable if
you're holding the ball and not juggling it. While juggling, it's not
noticable at all.

I personally hand stitch(instead of machine sewing) all of my
ultraleather balls that I sell and, for my final seam, I use a
modified ladder stitch so that, when I'm done, the final seam is
indistinguishable from the rest of the ball while juggling it and just
holding it.

As Brian Fahs said, as long as you purchase from a reputable vendor
who makes the balls themselves(not outsourced labor), you're going to
get a high quality ball. A beanbag will only get so good. Ultraleather
is the highest quality material to use and most all vendors here in
the states(GBallz, SportCo, BagLady, me) use it. All of these ball
makers are highly skilled, have years of experience and, will make a
solid ball. Beyond that, you're looking at price, pattern and, color
differences.

I've not tried the Renegade 12 panel beanbags but(as someone who makes
the 12 sided "dodecahedron" balls) the pattern lends itself to a very
conforming shape. That is, they stay round better. It is my preferred
pattern to make and use.

...but Rico did not link us to his website for seeing or ordering any
of the balls he makes and sells. And his group profile page links
only to a music website with no scroll bar to see below the opening
screen.

The Mr. Babache squosh (silicon coated) balls are awesome. Going to
ultra-leather may not be an upgrade, excepting price. It might take a
while to get used to the leather compared to squosh (vinyl or silicon).
On difference, from what I have seen Sport and Gballz are the same. I
don't think I have ever seen the Renegade ball.

Incidentally, I,ve got a set of 10 G-ballz: 3 panel white , 3 panel
Neptune, elite series, 125g, 2.75 inches, slightly used. I've been
looking to sell/ trade them for sometime. Email: alct...@indiana.edu if
interested.

Since I began juggling 3+ inch Russians I can't juggle anything smaller,
especially not for 3 ball tricks.

Jeff, glad to see you're still juggling.

I buy from baglady. The reasons I buy from her are that she gives you a
free bag with your order and
she includes an extra ball free. Plus, she gives a discount to students.
When I first ordered from her I
was surprised with the free bag and extra ball.

Jared,

It's been a long time! I wish I was still going to conventions so we
could hang out. Drop me a line if you're ever headed out west for one.

I would've done that in the first place but your email is set to private
on jugglingdb so I wasn't able to...

Well firstly, I would like to say that you have brought up a good
question. In my opinion, I would say that you should go with the Sport
Juggling Co. Beanbags. They are 6 panel and feel very good in your
hands. You also said that you wanted to "upgrade to ultraleather"
Sport Co Juggling Beanbags are ultra leather.
As for cost, I would say that the Renegade beanbags are the cheapest.
But they are lower quality than the other two company's balls. So I
would still stick with Sport Juggling Co. However if you do buy some
beanbags from Sport Co, you must be warned that there prices are
increasing on May 1st.
I have seen Doug Sayers (the owners son of Sport Juggling Co.) in
person and he uses some pretty big beanbags for 7-9 ball juggling. So
you can go which ever way you want to, but I recommend Sport Juggling
Co.
