At the moment the tape at the tops of my juggling clubs is pretty bad i
think only 3 of the 5 have
any tape on and the ones that have tape are hanging off.

So the point is what type of tape should i use to tape up the clubs or
does it not matter. If there is
a good type then also where can i get it from? Thanks.

I've redone my Renegade handles with Henkel 3/4" white electrical tape
most recently, and I've been really happy with how they turned out. I can
usually find it at ACE hardware.

If you use the same width tape, I don't think it matters too much. Using a
wider tape adds more weight
and it tends to move/shrink with time. The normal heat caused by the sun
will loosen it and leave
exposed glue, which picks up dirt and gets glue on your hands.

There is a good reason prop makers use the narrower tape.

I'm yet to find any good tape for clubs in the UK having tried close to 10
different options. I now just stock up on the tape Henry's use whenever I
am in Germany or a convention Henrys attend (BJC or EJC usually). Its
called Tesa extra power gewebeband if you can find it anywhere.

Interested to know if anyone has found a better alternative in the uk

I can't speak on the UK. Finding a narrower to in the US is a little
harder than the "normal width" tape,
but not impossible. I've gotten it in office supply places or in the hobby
section of super-stores. The
advantage of getting them in the hobby section or an actually hobby store
is the selection of colors.

You can buy them from most of the prop makers, which will charge you a
little more, but if you add it to
an order you are already making, it's not that big a deal. If you are like
me and try to make every penny
count, keep looking at the hobby section, hobby stores, and dollar stores,
then pick up plenty for later.

Like I said in my other posts, I think 3/4" is too wide. Here is a place
that sells 1/4" or even 1/8"

I don't think there is any one right tape. I agee with the others that
said electrical tape. I think that looks good and generally matches the
original tape. If artistic, designs can be made with the tape too. I,
however, live in a hot climate and leaving my clubs in the car even once
will result in shrunk tape and sticky clubs.

I've used medical fabric tape in the past. Heat isn't as much of a
problem, it gives some grip and padding. But I don't think it looks as
nice, my clubs had a doctored/injured look. If using hard plastic clubs,
you might even consider padded sport tape.

Why wouldn't local vendors carry tape, surely when they import Henrys
clubs they
could get tape as well. Surely there is a market for it. I'm pretty sure
juggle
art here in Australia doesn't carry it, maybe could get them to.

I agree, I've always used good quality PVC electrical tape.

However, not all electrical tape is created equal. Stay away from the
cheap shiny stuff which changes colour as you stretch it. The more
expensive matt tape is much better all round.

I tend to buy my electrical tape either from either:
http://uk.rs-online.com (not easy unless you've got a company account)
or
http://www.rapidonline.com/

I did buy some from screwfix, and that was the good stuff, but the
next roll I bought from them was the cheap stuff - so it seems they
don't always stick to the one supplier.

I usually buy the 33M rolls, but then I do use an awful lot of it for
all sorts of things.

The only place on a club where I wouldn't use it, is to cover the seam
where the handle meets the body. The best option I've found so far in
the UK for taping that is pro-gaff - although that's still not quite as
good as the tape Henrys use (which is apparently wideley available in
most of the EU, but not in the UK)

If you're getting shrunk tape, you're probably stretching it too much as
you apply it. Mind you, I don't live in a hot climate, so probably shouldn't
give you much advice on that ;-)
