Thanks to The Void for hose clips. There are also a small number of Mark
Robertson videos on YouTube:

Funnily enough, I was only made aware of Mark Robertson earlier this week
while reading one of the chapters within 4,000 of Juggling (by Karl
Heinz-Zeithen). He was mentioned as a prodigious 17 year old yo-yo
performer and there is also a picture of him in this book. To have earned
a mention in this book is certainly a high accolade for any juggler,
especially one so young.
Regards,
Colin E.
Here's another clip of Mark, in full 17(?)-year-old yo-yo-prodigy mode:

IIRC, it was from a brain haemorrage, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure
there was an obituary printed in
The Catch magazine in... late 92? 93? early 94? Maybe someone who has
copies can see if they could find
it and let us know. (LP? Mikey?)

Coming now, coming to reward them.
I'll have a look when I next get a chance (which may be tonight) although
I might not be able to tell you about it or provide a scan until Monday.

What is the song/artist that Mark uses in one of his youtube videos?
I've heard in many times before on other juggling videos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv7WhBDJQiI
It sounds to me like it's by "Yello" - it's not "The Race" though, I'd
have to rummage in my vinyl collection to see if it matches up with
anything I've got on b-sides/albums.

Thanks, although I'm now wondering if the obit I'm thinking of was for
Marcus Marconi. Possibly both
exist.

He was. I'm pretty sure that Mark performed using Duncan Specials[1] - all
the more impressive. I met
Don at a yo-yo promo event in '98. He still had the old magic :-) Mark's
nephew Kim was there too,
who was also a yo-yoer/juggler. Haven't heard of Kim since then though -
don't know if he's still on
the scene.

Perhaps so. I don't think I've seen that photo.

[1] A cheap and basic, but perfectly good, yo-yo.
I've not checked my Catches, but maybe you're thinking of Kaskade?
http://www.kaskade.de/en/doc/archive/index30.html says there was an obit in
the June 1993 edition
-Mike
Ah. Maybe it there was something in the Catch too, but that's probably
what I was thinking of. So....
anyone got a copy of Kaskade 30 to hand?....

I just got up early especially to tell you this [1], but you knew already -
I don't know why I bother!
I've got a copy here, but I won't be near a scanner until 26th Feb - can
anyone get a scan faster than that?
-Mike
[1] Or I woke up early, couldn't get back to sleep, and decided to flick
through my Catches to pass the time 'til Jo got up to open her birthday
presents. You choose.
My name is Vivien and I am Mark Robertson's sister, I put some clips of
Mark onto youtube and have been really pleased at the response. I put them
up as I didn't want Mark to be forgotten, but it seems that he isn't
forgotten anyway!
I will try and answer some of your questions...
Mark died on 20th August 1992 for a brain haemorrhage. there were obits in
Kascade and in Catch ( which I think Sean Gandini wrote), also in several
daily newspapers.
Yes, he was the son of Don Robertson, whose photo was on the Duncan yoyo
packets. Mark used the coca cola yoyos at first ( we all had to enter the
yoyoing comp that they ran so Mark could stock up on them) I think he then
used Duncan yoyo's for a time, not sure what he then used, but can
probably find out if anyone really wants to know.
My dad is alive and well aged 78, he only recently retired from performing
his magic and yoyo act.I will put a video up of his yoyo routine soon. He
did put the picture of Mark into the Magic Circle headquarters and he is
doing chops with clubs (3)
The music Mark used was yello, but I am afraid I can't remember what track
it was.
My son Kim more or less gave up juggling when he went to uni, but still
kept going with the yoyo. He has recently started juggling again and is
really enjoying it, although he has no plans to perform. He is juggling 7
balls and 5 clubs, but will work his way up as he really likes numbers
juggling.
I have always been a mediocre yoyoer and juggler, but enjoy watching good
juggling and yoyo performances
Aynway, sorry for such a long post, it is great to find the juggling scene
still alive and going strong :)
Vivien
Thanks for posting those clips. One thing i really enjoy is
watching a real performance in front of a real audience. All you really
seem to see these days are videos taken in Kitchens, gymnasiums and
gardens. Most of those jugglers would fall apart on a stage. Mark looked so
confident in front of that massive crowd. I know i could never do that.
Thanks again.
Hi Vivien,
It's nice to hear from you on rec.juggling. Many thanks for uploading
Mark's videos onto YouTube and your upcoming uploads to jugglethis.net.
Currently the juggling community is very much thriving on online juggling
videos. They provide jugglers like myself with new tricks to learn,
inspiration and ideas, and most of all a bit of entertainment. Mark's
videos have bucketloads of all three.
The juggling community is proud of its history and the many performers
both past and present who make it so colourful. Mark Robertson has clearly
made his mark in jugglig history, and for this he will never be forgotten.
Best wishes,
Colin E.
you have a book about 4000 jugglingphotos?
is it from dube?
Regards urs
Thanks Mini. It was good to read that, if a little sad. Wow, so Mark was
at the first EJC. I wonder who else
was there......

I can't see the pics on that link, but I do have a phot somewhere fo that
convention :)
I have met 5 ;P
That page seems to have fallen off of the IJA site, so I had to link to it
via the web archive, which
mostly only stores text, and not pictures :-( There is a picture on

Gotta love postmen. Unless you're Lana Turner.
Those are great. That hat practice is a wonderful routine, especially.
Thanks for those,
Andy
PS: I didn't juggle for about ten years now (shame, shame) after I
finished with NoFit State, and realised my legacy wetware would never get
its head around Site Swap...
You can have first place if you share some memories of the convention with
us..... :-D

Don't worry about it, it's all a bluff anyway.
