Corn is corn
They'll eat it..
Remember, they have sensitive noses, your scent will linger wfrom when you
spread it out.
Just make sure that it's cracked corn that you lay out.
It's quicker to digest for them.
I mix 200# of alfalfa protein pellets with 50# corn; plunge both
hands in the barrel and stir it all up. If the deer mind you couldn't
tell from the photos I get from the scout camera.
The hogs couldn't care less.

# Does anyone know if this is true and if the corn that WalMart
#sells would fall into that category?
I have not noticed that the deer, or any of the other animals out there, are
really bothered by where the corn is bought.
What I want to mention is that the corn, shelled or cracked, is probably much
cheaper at a feed store. Ask around to find out where one in your area is
located. For the cost of 20 lbs at the Wal-Mart you should be able to get a 50
lb sack at the feed outlet and still have change left over.

I don't buy it (the story). I *intentionally* put my scent out into areas
where I plan on hunting (including peeing on the brush) so that the
animals get somewhat used to having my scent around. The key is to keep
that scent in the area the entire year.
So, yeah, I buy the corn at Wal-Mart. Unless I want the apple scented
stuff that only our local co-op sells.

You always have freedom of choice, but you never have freedom of
consequence.
>yes corn is corn...but I would not get it from walmart...that store
>sucks! get it at a feed store or somewhere else..anywhere but
>walmart...I boycot that store.
I've given up on the cheap feed store corn as more often than not it's not
very well cleaned which tends to stop up my feeders. I've tried several feed
stores with the same results with one exception: the stores that sell
Sportsman's Choice brand feeds. Excellent products but not cheap.
A couple years ago the Walmart here began selling Moultree corn fairly
cheap. Funny thing was the bags were light and there was no weight printed
anywhere on the bag. Turns out they were only 40lbs. They now print the
weight on the bag but I will never buy their corn again because of their
previous deception.
The local grocery stores here (HEB) sells apple scented corn, which year in
and year out has always been excellent clean corn. It's always been
reasonably priced too but this year it has taken a jump to $5.29 per 50lb
bag. Still worth it though as the deer seem to really like it too.

That is interesting. I have read that you should not pee and that it does
not matter AND that you should.
Personal experience has shown me that it does not matter, however I think
you have a point. I hunt next to a 19 acre vineyard & winery. We have 45
wooded acres that I own and hunt. I've noticed that the deer are quite
willing to frequent the areas that are frequented by humans. There are a
couple of spots that the "men folk" use so that they don't have to bother
going inside to the restroom. There are deer tracks there just as much as
anywhere else.
Skully
I go even further - if I find a scrape, I'll pee on it.
My wife says I'm like a dog that has to mark his territory! LOL

The people from Michigan might remember the Fred Trost televison show. He ran a
small experiment and decided that the natural curiousity that deer have keeps
from from being frightened by the smell. In fact it will get their attention and
they will move in to take a look/sniff to see what the new smell is.
