I have seen three msgs show up in the last week and two of them today
and a sPAm msg about 4 days ago.
Thought for sure that someone would send a msg about what hunting
item they got for Christmas.

I got 5 pounds of Blue Dot, 250 "long-out-of-production" Varminator bullets
in 6MM, plus two 175-round padded ammo carriers for the .223.
Good morning to all and HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. For Christmas I got me some new socks and shirts. A friend of mine gave me enough danged scent bombs to last me for the next three years. Wonder if I could hint around for her to get me the stuff to put in it for my birthday. ( lol wink wink) Anyways ya'll be good and wish the best for all in the upcoming year. Oh BTW, I had a good after Christmas present with a 125 lb 4 point on 12-26-09.This deer comes exactly 5 years to the day that I shot my first deer ever.

Got a new nice set of waders (already used 'em...brrrrr!) and a fair
amount of nice cold weather hunting and fishing gear. Bought myself a
new external hard drive for backups so I don't lose 10 zillion cool
pics again. Lost a bunch from a nice trip out to Wyoming, Montana,
and South Dakota.

I bought a rifle at WalMart, what'cha think about that? Now I can't
find any brass to load with or inexpensive ammo. It's a .375 Ruger
Alaskan. If Cabela's comes through, I'll try to reload some Sierra
200 gr. RN for deer and target practice, maybe work up a couple
reduced loads using the Red Dot powder. bookburn
Try www.sportsmansguide.com as I buy quite a bit of stuff thru them
and have been very happy...the ammo won't be "cheap" but you will have
the brass. (I have not business relationship whatsoever with this
company except as a customer.) Use the Search Term "Rifle Ammunition
- .375" (no quotation marks).

Thanks, they have the ammo, which doesn't ship to Alaska without
giving them the mortgage on your house, but no .375 Ruger brass,
which is scarce as hens' teeth. Actually thinking I'll buy the ammo
at $63 just to get the brass. Supposed to be reduced loads can extend
life of brass and barrel wear a great deal. One poster at a forum
says he reloaded 20 times from his brass, which makes up for a lot.
My guerilla war with Hornady (:-).
I tried Remington Express 150 soft points in it to see if it liked
them. It did...1/2 inch group at 100 yds. After six shots the group
began to walk up and to spread a bit (1.5 inches). I infer it had not
been cleaned by the former owner and was at something like 13 shots as
it began spreading. Fair enough. I tried it again cold. Got a 3/4
inch group. It should be good to the 250 yds max that we shoot from
our stands. I appreciate having such a gift. My venerable Savage 99 .
243 will rest out the season.
Good investment. I had a Brno Mauser .30-'06. Bought it used, but
like new, and had it re-chambered for .308 Norma, thinking it might be
an all-for-one rifle, if I did hand loading.
Also, I like the idea of buying used medium and even big bore rifles
that have been put away because they kick too much. Some fancy, old
guns might be really fun if you know how to use them with reduced
loads. Get a Weatherby .378 or .340 and figure out how to load
bullets for game at reasonable distances; maybe get into casting your
own.

I'm a new lurker, looking for a group that discusses guns and
reloading. Not interested in a moderated group, like alt.rec.guns.
Any recommendations? bookburn
