Would like to hear from those who have Leupold's. Are they as good as
everyone says?

I have several Leupolds - 2 Vari-X III 2.5-8's, 1 Vari-X 3.5-10, 1 Vari-X II
2-7 and a compact Vari something or other on an M70 Featherweight .270. One
of the Vari-X IIIs is on a .300 H&H. The newer Vari-X III 3.5-10 sits on
a 7MM Rem Mag. None have malfunctioned, even under extreme conditions of
cold, moisture and altitude.

About 20 years ago I damaged the top turret cover on the Vari-X II and found I
was unable to remove the cap to make an adjustment. I used a pair of pliers,
a rag for padding and I little "armstrong" whereupon the entire turret
assembly came out! I sheepishly sent my handiwork back to Leupold for repair,
along with a note fessing up to my stupidity. I had no receipt for the
purchase and had had the scope a year or so. They sent me a brand new scope,
at no charge, and made some feeble excuse about the anodization color being a
tad "off."

I've hunted over the years with several outfitters. Two have specifically
remarked that they have never seen a Leupold fail as a result of changes in
pressure or humidity but that they had seen an occasional scope from other
manufacturers fog or loose its point of aim for various reasons.

For the dollar, IMHO, Leupold is at least as good as any comparable
instrument. The "new scope" episode described above has made me a customer
for life.

Good hunting! J. Rice

I have used Leupold scopes in the most extreme conditions and have never
had any problems. I live 30 miles above the arctic circle here in Alaska
on the coast. I have been out in weather that ranges from +90 to -50 and
my scope has never failed me. I have fallen on it, rolled over it, dropped
it, forgot it, and generally abused it. Not once has it drifted, went off
zero, or fogged up. I have used other scopes in various price ranges and
have always returned to the Leupold. They come in just about every flavor
for every need, you can't go wrong with one.

The only scope I use. Definately the best for the money.

Leupolds? I've put one on every rifle I've owned, not that I'm that
old or experienced, and I have been satisfied with every one. All
moving parats remain tight and sure. One problem I did have was
damage caused when I fell traversing a shale covered slope. I sent
the scope to the mfg and it was repaired quickly and without cost!
The company can also install just about any type reticle you desire to
suit the type of hunting you plan; varmint, big game, target, etc.
I've always stuck with the duplex myself but a company rep told me
about the ability to change once when I called asking about a certain
type scope. My newest is a 4.5x14 40mm on a .223 Kimber that is just
outstanding.

I'm extremely happy with my Leupolds. They are the only scope I
own on 2 rifles and one spare. I must admit that I have access to good
pricing on Leupolds. Otherwise I might have bought Burris...a good scope.
But I didn't. And I am very happy with Leupold...
Ron
I also own a Leupold spotting scope....

In my humble opinion Leupold scopes are excellent and I would advise
anyone to do what they have to do to afford one. They are worth their
premium price. If price is an issue, buy a used one. The company will
fix just about any problem for almost nothing, usually just the cost of
shipping. I picked up a very early Vair-X 3x9 on a used rifle I bought.
When the power ring was turned you could feel grinding metal. I sent it
in with a note asking for an estimate to repair it and I told them how I
got the scope. The scope came back a couple weeks later with a note
detailing the work done which was pretty much replacing most of the moving
parts and the lenses and an appology because it could not be updated for
the latest parrallax correcting features. All for NO charge!!!!!!

I was very happy with my Weaver and Redfield scopes until I got a
Leupold. I got a 7MM Mag Sako to hunt Canadian whitetails a
couple of years ago and got a Leupold 3.5 X 10 x 50 MM. I
firmly believe it is the best scope for the money on the market.
The scope, with a set of redfield rings and bases, cost about
$420 but it has been worth every penny.

Steve your right about their service. Leupold is top notch. But the
Leupold 3X9 vari-X II scope is not all that great of scope. The Vari-X II
has single coated optics the adjustments are of stanard design, no real
advantage over other brands. The Vari-X II 3x9 only gathers 82% of
available light. The burris Signiture 3x9 gathers 91% of available ligh.
Thats because the burris optics are Multi-coated. Now if your talking the
Vari-X III thats a whole different ball game. For the PRICE the Vari-X III
scopes are hard to beat "IMHO". The Vari-X II 3X9 scope has become Leupolds
Promo Scope, a good one, but just a average scope.

Leupold Fan For EVER!
