I think the term 'bag' would be heavily frowned upon here :-)
Cost? Well that depends upon the species, the sex, and how you obtained
the rights to stalk. (There is _no_ public hunting here.) My brother
stalks roebucks for free: the landowner views them as 'pretty vermin'.
I can do the same here in the north.
A Scots friend of mine is a professional stalker in Argyll. He's with
the Forestry Commission who are _not_ cheap. A week's stalking roebuck
would cost L500/week. For that you get a professional guide. On top of
that you pay a fee based on the quality of the trophy, and get the
option to buy the carcase. He would charge L300 per week of red deer (a
relative of the wapiti) hind stalking during which time you could
expect to shoot 10 to 15 beasts. Now if you want to shoot a red stag,
you might pay L80 for one day's guided stalk, _and_ a trophy fee which
can be heavy. On the other hand, by special arrangement, I get to stalk
roe deer for L35 per outing (guided) and _no_ trophy fee and a German
friend gets to stalk red hinds for free because he knows the owner.
It depends on who you know, is the only (not very helpful) answer.
