Hello, I was just wondering if anybody has any info on English springer
Spainels. I just bought one last week. She is a female, 6 months old. She
has the marking of the field dog. i got her from the humane society in my
neighborhood. She is a very well tempered dog, and seems to learn very fast.
Any info on how i should go about training her for hunting?

Thanks,
Jeff and Abby

Upland Sports 414-363-4595 has a number of ESS training books listed
in the back of Spaniels in the Field ph 513-489-2727 by both English
and American authors. The only one I am familiar with is "Hup!
Training Spaniels the American Way" - Spencer. re #96-701, I have
managed to get satisfactory results following it's outline. However,
if you are fortunate enough to be close to an ESS training club you'll
get much more help and guidance than any book can provide.

By all means, join your local field or hunt test ESS club. When you subscribe to
Spaniels in the
Field, look at the list of up coming Trials, pick one that is close to you and
call that club
contact, they will be able to stear you to the nearest club.

You have picked your self one of the best family upland gun dogs there is.
I know I have two one male 5 yrs & one female 7yrs old and they hunt till
they drop. training them to hunt birds is not hard for that is mostly
insinct, get'em on a live birdr two and after that they get the idea.I
joined our loacl club (W.E.S.S.A.) and its been a real big help .I live in
sth. wis. if you 'd like info. on our club let me know . as far as
training id do a lot of reading as soon as you can. Gun-Dog Training
SpanielsAnd Retrievers by Kenneth C. Roebuck is a very good book to read .
I also breed springers and Iam on my 4th litter now 3 weeks old and they
are a blast. Good luck and let us know how it's going .

Ask some hunting friend if they have any pheasent, grouse or
woodcock wings in the freezer. I always keep a wing or two in
the freezer.
Once you have this play hide and seek with her. They have it
in them instinctively, you just need to bring it out. When she
finds the wing praise her and she will get the message.
