My husband and I are considering purchasing a lab from Sunnyview Labradors
in Salem OR.
We visited his kennel and everything seemed in order. His dogs were
beautiful
and had all the hip/eye check paperwork on the parents. also all of his
dogs
are guaranteed.
Were looking for a lab to hunt and to be a family member.
We saw the female and male dog as well as info on the grandparents.
The female was just bred on nov 8th and the puppies would be ready
end of Feb/begining of March.
He also has two other beautiful female he is going to breed when they come
into heat. they are all cleared for hips/eyes and are all field trial
champions.
a non refundable deposit of 200.00 would be required to hold a puppy which
would go toward the purchase price of 800.00.
We dont care about the price - we want a great dog.
Any knowledge or experience anyone has had with this breeder would
be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I know Matt and Dick from Hunt Tests, and personally know them to be very
serious about the quality of their dogs. I also know of others who have
purchased dogs from their Kennel, and are very happy with their decision. I
have been to their Kennel, and they do have everything in order. Although I
do not personally have a dog from their Kennel, in my short 1 year
involvement in Hunt Tests, I've never heard anything negative about Sunnyview
Labs.
My 2 cents worth...

I have run hunt tests with Dick and he has very nice dogs. He seems to really
care about which dogs he breeds. I think you can buy from him and not have to
worry about what you are getting. Let us know when you get your pup.

I read your reguest for information a few days ago, and had not had the time
to respond. When I logon on tonight I saw where different people have
responded to your request for information. I don't know these people from
adam, but you said in your note their dogs where field champions. Then I saw
in a note from someone that they ran hunting test with these people. Did they
bill there dogs as Field Champions or did you just assume that? Unless these
dogs have a initials infront of there name such as FC which stands for field
champion or AFC which stands for Amatuer Field Champion, they are falsely
advertising there dogs. Believe me it 20 times harder to get a FC than it is
a master hunter. Most all age quailified dogs are able to get a master hunter
fairly easily. I am not trying to detract from the quaility of dogs who run
hunting test but, it is a great deal easier to get a master hunter than it is
a FC.
If these people bitch has a FC or AFC than $800.00 IS CHEAP for a puppy. But
if they are just senior and master hunters than the price is high, espically
if the puppies are not sired by a FC-AFC. What would bother me more is that
if they called them field champions and they don't have an FC or AFC in front
of their dogs name than, I would call that false advertising.
There is nothing to say that these people don't run both. Alot of field
trial people run hunting tests and their dogs could be FC or AFC but ask to
see the certificate from the AKC that states their dog is a FC and or AFC. I
myself have a four year old who just got his FC and I run hunting tests with
him. They are a great pick me up for my dogs. Not to mention they are just
down right fun. But if the bitch has an FC or AFC I would say $800 is cheap.
I have paid $1200 for a 7 week old puppy, and believe it or not that is not
the top end of the scale. But her mother was the top open bitch in the US in
1992. I just resently purchased two puppies whose mother is litter mate to
four FC (fishtrap bred to harley) and the father of the puppies is FC-AFC
Zipper he has finished at least one national and has over 100 all-age points.
These puppies are $500 with full guarantee for hips and eyes.
I hope I have given you a level set and not got your head to spining. Again
I am not trying to run down people in hunting tests or the quaility of the
dogs (most are from field trial breeding once or twice removed). I do not
like false advertising. It can be in dogs, cars, what ever it is dishonest!!
