You are showing your knowledge of dogs. A real Poodle isn't a fufu yapper
breed. Although I have little experience with them, Poodles are one of the
most intelligent breeds and I believe they were working retrievers in there
past. One of the versatile breeds of Europe, Pudelpointer, utilized Poodle
stock for these Poodle charateristics. There are poodles getting their hunt
titles in the states.
>Why do breeders of sporting dogs have such little (dis)regard for their
>breeds as to vigorously insist - 'sporting dogs aren't worth
>more than $500!!'
Most hunters live in small markets, where $1150 a pup is way too much unless
they are some rich retired transplant from the big city. Why would anyone
in any market pay those prices from an unproven Bitch's first litter owned
by a so called marketing man and one time breeder.
>When I say you're 'a zero sum' kind of guy who doesn't think the 'dog'
component of the hunting experience
>should exceed $500, I mean to say you're interested in only one
thing -protecting your turf -- your business.
This comment shows your ignorance of Economics. I guess you were a
marketing guy who just knows how to talk a good game. If Archy was a
breeder, he is not, he would want you to sell your pups at the highest price
possible, because it could only help him. Your high priced sale would
indicate higher demand for English Setters or weakness of the dollar, which
would raise the table he uses to sell his pups. I am sure he would love to
collect on the higher market value for his quality setters.

I even know of one that competes quite respectably at herding trials.
