I am looking for a book or books on training the versatile hunting dog.
Any help or information would be appreciated.

Good place to start is the NAVHDA "green book." It's available on their
website at <http://www.navhda.org> Better yet, find a local NAHVDA chapter
near you and give them a call. They will have the book available, and
probably will have training days as part of their chapter.

I have a Brittany, now about 8 months old, and 8 months ago I asked the
same question on this group. I got hammered pretty hard for asking the same
old question. But I didn't know ...

I didn't want to go hay-wild with books so I said to myself I was going to
choose just 2. After a lot of research, I chose the North American
Versatile Hunting Dog Association (www.navhda.org) Green book and Delmar
Smith Method of Training Your Gun Dog (I probably got the title wrong, but
you get the main part).

In retrospect, I think I should have got about 4 books reason being that I
find my training being combination of both books. Knowing your dog is more
important than going by cookbook recipes.

Good Luck, It's fun!

I like the Wolters books. They are easy to find, they are really just a
start, but.

Marcus,
Visit the web site of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association:
www.navhda.org
It has publications that should answer your question.

Question:
Do you mean truly "versatile" as in a dog that hunts fur as well as feather?
