When to spay?

When is the best time to spay a female dog? I have a 22 week old Weim =
who will probably be coming into heat in the next few weeks. Our vet =
says to spay before she goes into heat, but I have heard to wait until =
after the first heat. What are the pro's and con's of doing it now vs. =
waiting? I'd appreciate any advice.

I would say wait. Otherwise you may always have a pup. Let her cycle a
time or two. How can we be sure that the sex hormones aren't tied to
growth hormones? What's the hurry?

I have two dogs;one spayed before her first heat and the second one after
her first heat. My advice is spaying after the first heat. I think that my
younger dog is more mature and her body is a little bit better developed.
My oldest dog (spayed before her heat) is more settled down. My youngest
though is a GSP and is more hyper anyway I don't know what is better in
medical respect. In that too vets have their (different) opinions. I would
wait if I were you.
