I am currently looking to buy a Viszla this summer for pheasant
hunting. Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to spend on a
papered Viszla?

There are a lot of dogs out there with 'papers' but getting one of
the correct breeding to hunt Pheasants with you is another story. AKC
papers don't make the hunting dog, the breeding does. Look for more
then just the paper.

Hi Shawn-
For a good "papered" Vizsla you can expect to pay around $800 - $1200. Make
sure they have OFA Numbers on Hips & Thyroid, plus Cerf on the eyes. Also
ask about any epilepsy in your selected breeder's line.

Here is a good place to start:
The Vizsla Club of America
http://clubs.akc.org//vizsla/

Here is a list of all the Vizsla Clubs in the USA & Canada:

Contact a club in your area and they will get you started!

And then the next place to learn of Vizslas is at this site:

Geoffrey-
It looks like we posted messages with the same name. I have grown up
hunting with vizslas but don't call me an expert. My dad bought his
first one in 1980 and took it pheasant hunting at 7 months. By then it
was pointing and retreiving with no problems. She actually pointed her
first pheasant at 8 weeks. I don't know if she was special or what.
Anyhow, they are slow to mature but very anxious to learn. I would say
start working with her as soon as you get her. We started early with
the vizsla we have now and she was good too. My cousin shot his 12
gauge off right next to her ear her second time out so she is gun shy
and can't go with us. She still loves to hunt though....without the
guns that is. Take this for whatever it is worth. Like I said, I am
not expert.

As for deer, I don't do that here so I can't help you there. Good luck
and let us know how it goes.
