The following is a list of swear words in a variety of languages. I am
trying to build on it, so that when I go a-travelling, and someone is

Please help me to expand my list by sending:
language swear word - english translation - phonetics for pronunciation

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE LIST

Merde - Shit
Va tu faire foutre! - Fuck off/Go fuck yourself/Stuff it
Tu m'emmerde - Fuck you (literally, "you are in my shit")

Russian

Mirda - Shit (from the spanish)
Blednoye chudo - flaming asshole (literally "pale wonder")

Actually, it's "mierda" - we wouldn't want to use the word towards
someone and have them laugh at us :)
Also, what would be nice is a pronunciation for the terms.
Jim
Oh...here's a good one to add to the list - "chi chis" (I forget if it's one
word or two), which is slang for male or female genitals....just think about
THAT next time you go for mexican food at Chi Chi's :)

I've heard "Mierda" alot more often (in fact, i've only heard "mirda" once)

> chingar - to fuck i.e. "!chinga te!" (fuck you) or "!ay, chinga!" (oh, fuck)

Also in Mexico for fuck: cojer (cojete: go fuck yourself) I've also heard
"follar"

> puta, puto - bitch, male bitch (asshole, son-of-a-bitch)

(At least in Mexico) puta is used more often to represent "whore"

> pendeja, pendejo - no translation, an insult

Believe it or not: it means "pubic hair"

pinche: stingy

guey: Mule, idiot.

We don't say either of those.

Alternative suggestions with sexual connotation:

Fick dich ins Knie --- fuck your knee (fuck off)

Leck mich am Arsch --- kiss (lick) my ass

If so, it must have been hidden very well in the original. "Scheissfrueher"?
"Shit former"? "Shit before"? Doesn't remind me of any German word I know.

've seen some strange-looking supposedly German swearwords on
this group lately. None of them sounds like actual swearing
I've heard, and only "Saug mein Schwanz" like anything they
might say.

Here's a genuine one: "Du kannst mich". It doesn't sound like
much (its literal meaning is "you can [do something not specified]
to me") but every German understands it as "Du kannst mich am Arsch
lecken" ("you can lick my ass").

Its normal usage is a surly response to a request:

"I know the office closed five minutes ago, but as you're
standing there, can I have a list of tourist lodgings?"

"Du kannst mich, du!"

Tsk, tsk: more incomprehensible German "swearwords".

Hundin, Himmel Donnerwetter, Scheisskopf: well, they do say
Scheisskopf, but I suspect it's from English. Donnerwetter
is utterly mild.

I heard a saintly old lady refer to rainy weather as
"Scheisswetter" once; I think if they really want to complain about
the weather they say "Sauwetter". Incidentally it's much
more likely to get a woman annoyed to call her a "Sau" than a
"Hundin", which sounds sort of antique "You she-dog!"

Some others from _The International Dictionary of Obscenity_:

"Du hast einen Furz im Hirn" -- you've got some wierd ideas
(lit. trans. 'you have a fart in your brain')

"Das geht dich einen feuchten Scheissdreck an!" -- none of your fucking
business!
(lit. trans. 'that concerns you like wet shit')

"Arsch mit Ohren" -- a stupid person
(lit. trans. 'ass with ears')

However, I think that Russian obscenities have more flavor. Some of the
more entertaining ones:

vypirdak, vypirdka -- brat
(lit. trans. 'someone produced by farting')

"On z gavna penki snimayit" -- he's a greedy bastard
(lit. trans. 'he skims the foam off of shit')

"Pasasi zalupu!" -- Fuck, no! (refusal to a request)
(lit. trans. 'suck a foreskin')

"zasrat magzi _____" -- to fool or deceive _____
(lit. trans. 'shit on _____'s brains')

"Tebya ne ebut, ti ne podmakhivai" -- mind your own business
(lit. trans. 'you're not being fucked, so don't wiggle your ass')

"zalupa konskaya" -- asshole, jerk
(lit. trans. 'horse's foreskin')

Look again. Schiessen and scheissen are two very different words.

Frueher means "earlier," so Scheissfrueher would mean shit earlier, but I
have never heard this expression. Are you sure it wasn't Scheissekerl or
something like that? Or maybe Scheissefuehrer, which could mean something
like the head shit (although I haven't heard that either)?

Scheisse is indeed a wonderful word in German, and capable of lots of
exciting variations, including the ever-popular "Das ist mir Scheiss-egal"
(I don't give a shit, literally "it's shit-equal to me").

It is a colloquial Spanish word for "gay man" --- and it's only an insult

The German mathematician Gumbel lost his venia legendi [permission
to work as a professor], because he said that war didn't remind him of
a young woman with a laurel branch in her hand, but of a turnip.

(From a book called "Lexikon des nutzlossen Wissens", that is "dictionary
of useless knowledge". It's hilarious, someone should translate it as a
whole... not me. ;-)

I also read that Bavarians use these swears when the Polizei pull them over:

Dammischer Bullen! - Stupid Bull!
Pfannstiel! - Smelly boot!

"Maricon". It seems to be a swear word in most Spanish-speaking cultures, but
with different meanings-"asshole" one place, "faggot" another.
"Huevo" ("egg") also means "faggot" in some parts of South America.

Mange de la merde - (Monj d'la mayrd) literally, "eat shit".

Actually, in French, shit just happens. It's about as expletive as "damn" in
English. In Quebec (I dunno France), you want to express yourself with
words that risk censure, you have to go with expressions like "tabernac"
(in English, "tabernacle", a small box where religious sacraments are stored),
"calisse" (English: "chalice", the cup used for sacramental wine during
religious ceremonies), or, more often, "fuck". Sit in a bar listening to
people watch a hockey game, a dialogue might go:

"Viens! Viens! Allons-y Guy! Shoot to score!"

The forward makes a shot on goal, misses.

"Tabernac! Fuck. Espece de retard."

Have you seen that book which is nothing but a guide to swearing in French?
It is very thorough and provides example sentences. I've seen it in a few
book stores. It is called 'Merde'.

Not exactly swearwords, but two of my favorite vulgarisms in Russian:

Eto tebe tak nuzhno kak pizde budil'nik. /AYtah tiBYEH tahk NOOZHNnuh

clock'. (The Russian way of saying 'You need that like a fish needs a

Luchshe hui v ruke chem pizda na gorizonte. /LUCHshe WHOEE vruKYEH chem
peezDAH na goriZONTyeh/ 'Better a prick in the hand than a cunt on the
horizon.' /The Russian way of saying 'A bird in hand is worth two in the
bush.'

I've been told that in ARABIC there are wonderfully elaborate ways of
swearing with meaning such as 'May a herd of camels shit on the grave of
your paternal grandmother!'
Does anyone out there know any of these?

Have fun.

There are no problems to write this strange 'B' (sharp s) as 'ss'
>scheiBe [shyza] - shit
>scheiBkopf [shyzkof] - shithead
some more:
scheissdreck - strengthening of shit
scheisskerl - "shit fellow"
Arschloch - asshole

if you want to play a bit of noblety, you can say "scheibe" (with a 'b')
that sounds ab bit like scheisse, but isn't really this word.

Normally germans don't swear with 'fucking', the following I heard
rarely.
>fick dich - fuck you
>fick mich - fuck me
>du verdammter arschficker - you damn assfucker
>mach es dir selber - ??
fuck yourself, do it to tourself
some more:
Du Wixer - onanist
Schwuler - gay person

>willst du mit mir schlafen - will you sleep with me?
>ich moechte mit dir schlafen - I would like to sleep with you
No swearing

>arsh geficte wienistmann - go assfuck Santa (loosly translated)
I never heard that, but why not: Arsch gefickter Weihnachtsmann

>hundin [huntin] - bitch (female dog)
Fotze - cunt
dreckiges Weibsstueck - dirty woman (Lit. dirty piece of woman)
Hure or Nutte - whore, slut

>himmel donner wetter - *no translation--very strong curse*
> (Lit. heaven thunder weather)
really not very strong.
a bit stronger is
himmel arsch und zwirn - (Lit. heaven arse and twine)

>das geht dich einen feuchten Scheissdreck an - none of your fucking business
> (Lit. that concerns you like wet shit)
das geht dich einen Scheissdreck an
or a bit more distinguished:
das geht dich einen feuchten Kehricht an

But the most important of all you don't have in your list (usable as I know
in whole Germany not only in bavaria):
Leck mich am Arsch - kiss my backside/lick my arse(ass)

>Bavarian
>--------
>* pronunciation rules:
>* stressed syllable is preceded by ^
>* "U" pronounced as in "but"

>Saupreiss [^sow price] - prussian pig (not being a bavarian)
saupreiss, amerikanischer - ironic for "you american prussian pig"

>Haderlump [^hUderloomp] - wicked, asocial person
>Bazi [^bah tsee] - bad dude (could be friendly, too)
Ladirl - limp (?, oh my dictionary) man, who fears his wife
Grischbal - very small, thin man
Depp - (yes, same as the name of this actor) Idiot
Schlawiner or Schlawack - wicked, asocial person

>Zaehfixalleluja [tse ^fix Ulle ^luyA] - crucifix-halleluya/Darn! Dammit!
Kruzifix [grootseefiks] - crucifix/ Dammit!
Kreizkruzifix [kr I ts grootseefiks] - crucifix/ Dammit!
Himmiherrgodsakrament - Heaven Lord and scrament
kruzituerken, Kruzinesen - same as Kruzifix, but to not saying the holy
word, it is turned over to cruci-turks, cruci-chinese

>Am Orsch leckst mi [Am ^orsh laxed me] - lick my ass/fuck me
But:
ja mi leggst am Oasch (strong accent on 'mi'[mee]) - can express heavy
surprise

Gahndu == Asshole
Choot == Cunt (or bitch)
Lund/Laura == Dick

Ma qui cuss == Your mother's crotch

Terrai ma qui cuss da dunda dahdum == put a stick in your mother's

Op qui gahnd mai qui shukar == Your ass is full of honey and sugar

Hmm, I'll have to check that one out. Russian has a lot of colorful and earthy
expressions, pravda, but I noticed no one put anything in Yiddish up. Anyone
know any Yiddish? From what I've heard, it could be a match for Russian.

on eof the most interesting bavarian swearings IMHO is

Sacklzement (Translate: sack of cement). It is not a very strong swearing,
but interesting, cause I never found a similar thing in any other language. As
the (older) bavarians are all catholics, using holy words for swearing is one
of the strongest way to swear. If they did'nt really want to _say_ it, they
use a word that just sounds like it. The word in question is "sacrament". The
typical bavarian expressions "sakra" or "sakradi" go in the same direction.
Currently they stand more for astonishment, partly in a positive sense. All
these expressions still are not recommended to use in the presence of real
religous persons

In Italian:

Vaffanculo: "go fuck yourself" (lit. go do yourself in the ass)
In Lazio, it's "Va' farti fottere": "Go fuck yourself"

Cazzo: all-purpose swear, meaning "dick"

from this,
"Non m'importa un cazzo": "It doesn't matter a shit to me"
"Ma che cazzo fai?": "What the fuck are you doing?"
"Testa di cazzo": "Dickhead"

Fica: "Cunt" (lit. "fig")

from this,
"Guarda la fica": "What a bitch" (lit. look at the cunt)

In Lazio, a more taboo word is

Sorca: "Cunt" (lit. mouse)

Calling a woman "porca" (sow), "vacca" (cow) or any other barnyard animal
is not too nice, either.

Different ways to say the verb "to fuck," none as obscene as in english

Scopare (lit. to sweep) Chiavare (lit. to key) Piantare (lit. to plant)
Trombare (lit. to trumpet)

Scorreggiare: to fart

Fammi una pippa: "Give me a blowjob"
Fammi pompa: "Give me a handjob"

Non rompermi le palle (said to a woman): "Piss off" (lit. don't break my
balls)

Leccaculo: asslicker

Stronzo: turd, jerk, fool, idiot. Another all-purpose one.

Finally, one used by the pontiff, I'm sure:

Madonna puttana: dammmit (lit. Virgin Mother-Whore)

Actually, "Huevo" is usually used in Argentina as a slang for "testicle"
It seems unlikely it would be used to refer to homosexuals. As for
"maricon" I can't think of a good literal translation, but again neither
the anus nor homosexuals are referred to, to the best of my knowledge.

Where did you get this info?

Most of what I know about Spanish profanity comes from some Venezuelan kids I
knew at summer camp. We asked them, and they gave us the following list:

Decojo: Fuck you
Maricon: asshole
con~a: cunt

I forget the rest. The "Huevo" for "faggot" comes from a Sports Illustrated
articel in which a BYU athlete was talking about that being what the local kids
called him when he was a missionary in Bolivia.

For one or other reason, Dutch was not included, though this language
has SO many swearing and other bad words. A small selection (the parts
between brackets are the literally translation):

Godverdomme, Godver God dammit (God, damn me)
Klootzak, kloothommel Asshole (balls sack, balls bummblebee)
Klote Fuck, balls, shit (balls)
Lul Asshole (dick)
Kut Shit (cunt)
Dat is zwaar klote (van de bok) That's major/heavy shit
Teringlijer Asshole (one who suffers from ...)
Kankerlijer Asshole (one who suffers from cancer)
Je moet je smoel dicht houden You gotta shut up (you got to shut your face)
Bek dicht, bek houden Shut up (close your mouth - the mouth of an
animal, that is)
Rot op, flikker op, Fuck off (rot/fag/fag off)
sodemieter op
Flikker, miet, poot Faggot
Randdebiel Moron
Teef Bitch
Je bent helemaal van de ratten You're completely mad (you got sniffed on
besnuffeld by rats)
Je kunt me de rug op Not on your life (you can go up my back)

These aren't swearings, but they're so characteristic, I didn't want to
leave out:

Foutje, bedankt! [when you've made a fuck up] (comes from a
TV commercial for an insurance company)
Even Apeldoorn bellen [after you/someone made a major fuck up
and something actually got broken] (this
was also from a commercial for an
insurance company)

And the last one, from one of the many, many Limburgian dialects (the
province I come from), that is so beautiful, that I just had to include
it:

Doe kinst mich de poekel aafroetsje Not on your life

You might have noticed that I didn't include notes on pronunciation.
That's because Dutch is probably one of the most difficult languages
to learn, especially concerning spelling. Pronunciation is pretty
straightforward, though, but there are just so many sounds that
don't exist in English.

I spent 14 years in Colombia including all of high school. In Colombia
"maricon" IS "faggot". However it can be used more "casually" amongst teen
agers to mean dumb, clutz, idiot...

"Huevo" does derive from testicle but is used mostly in "se manda huevo"
meaning "you are the stupidest thing on earth"

In Colombia, small public transportation buses are called "buseta".
In a couple of S.A countries "buseta" means whore.... Suddenly,
"I am going to catch a bus" takes on a whole different meaning!

In brief: Throughout south america swears vary widely.

Here's one from France:

enculer - Literally, to buttfuck; I've been told it is the "dirtiest" word in their
language. Sort of like fuck in English.
niker - simillar to baiser but dirtier. Baiser is also the noun which means kiss
so that may take away from it's dirtiness. I'm not sure if this is the
correct way to spell it or not.

A while ago, someone asked for Arabic curses. I asked a friend of mine who
knows Arabic, and came up with these:

Nick Nafsik - Fuck you (imagine this on a "Hello, my name is..." card)
Yibnal Kelb - Son of a bitch (rumor has it that this was actually said in
an episode of MASH by Klinger...)

BTW, these are rough phonetic spellings - Arabic has many sounds that don't
translate well into English...

I read somewhere that "poppycock" comes from Dutch, "pappe kak" = soft
shit, but I couldn't swear to it.

In one of the Little House books, Charles Ingalls is recorded as having
said, "Gosh dang it!"

Oh, and more Yiddish--the few everyone probably knows and should if
they don't:

schmuck= male genitals (lit. "jewel")
putz= " "
yotz= euphemism for above
sheyne, reyne kappuris--a well-deserved end (lit., "a good, clean
sacrifice")
meshugge=crazy
farmisht= "
farklemt= "

And some good curses translated from the Yiddish:

May you live like an onion--with your head in the ground and your feet
in the air.

May you be like a trolley car--eat nickels and shit transfers.

May your wife eat matzoh in bed, and may you roll in the crumbs.

And an insult:

Lazy all week, and works on the Sabbath. Drunk all year, and sober on
Purim.

I'll try and dig up some more. Enjoy!

If I'm not mistaken, "cojones" is the word for balls (as in testicles).
"Huevos" does mean eggs, as in huevos rancheros.

So, I think if you want to say "I have balls" in Spanish, "Tengo cojones"
would be correct.

On the other hand, I could be completely wrong.

OK... Here comes the Chinese Mandarin swear words! Provided as is ; use
carefully ...

The most common and often-used ones :

1.Tsao ! - Fuck!
2.Wa Tsao ! - (I) fuck !
3.Gan ! - Fuck !
4.Gan ni niang ! - Fuck your mother; mother fucker.
5.Tsao ni ma ! - the same as 4.

Actually, 2 and 4 are a little bit Taiwaness ( a dialect of Chinese ).

There are still a lot....
