STUDENT SLANG UPDATE

Well, thanks for all your emails - we've now got a whole load more words to
add to our glossary! The disappointment is that there are still no words for
ugly blokes, though. Come on girls, you can do better than this as (big
surprise) there are a lot more terms for ugly girls which the blokes have
been emailing to us. Also, we've had a lot of emails from Oxford students
telling me that, yes, 'bop' is a well-used phrase round their way....

So, did you have a large one last weekend? Did you go on a complete bender,
and get mullered downing all those kamikazi tequilas and blastaways - before
stumbling home, chundering everywhere? And I bet you had a minging hangover
in the morning....

The search for a student language....
It's all a bit OTT crammed into one sentence, but you always hear in the
press about students having their own language and the older generations not
being able to get it etc etc. ... Well, we decided to see if there was a
student language out there, so we got Tony Mcenery, a linguistic expert, to
come round with us on our Fresher's Campus tour to find out if this is true.

And what he did find out is actually really interesting! Firstly, because
some of the words and phrases are just really funny: can you imagine if you
overheard someone describing you as a swamp donkey, it'd be mortifying!
Secondly, because some of the words are so not student language - come on,
which of you told the poor man that 'bop' and 'mega bop' were well-used
student phrases? And thirdly, because it shows that there's not really an
exclusive student language. For a start, a lot of the words here have been
around for ages and they're not only used by students.
