Voting machine company sues cable channel, personalities promoting Arizona audit for $1.6 billion

Dominion Voting Systems Inc. is suing a partisan cable channel and its on-
air personalities — some of whom helped raise money for a review of the
election in Maricopa County — for more than $1.6 billion for making false
claims about the 2020 election.

Dominion filed suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
against the parent company of One America News Network, or OAN, as well as
the cable channel's executives and two people who appear on the channel
purporting to be news reporters.

Guests on the channel as well as the personalities have repeatedly
suggested that Dominion machines, which were used in Maricopa County,
somehow flipped or changed votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden, despite a
lack of any evidence to corroborate such claims.

"OAN helped create and cultivate an alternate reality where up is down,
pigs have wings, and Dominion engaged in a colossal fraud to steal the
presidency from Donald Trump by rigging the vote," the lawsuit states,
adding that OAN saw the election as nothing more than a business
opportunity to draw viewers who became disenfranchised with Fox News once
it was clear Trump lost the election.

The complaint states many of the claims made on the cable channel are
easily refutable, including some claims Dominion machines were used in
places where Dominion machines were not used. It also says Dominion
workers have received death threats as a result of the false information
spread by the network.

Dominion is including the $600,000 it has spent on additional security
among the expenses it hopes to recover from defendants. It also is
including the $700,000 it has spent combating the "disinformation
campaign."

Also Tuesday, Dominion filed two other defamation lawsuits against Newsmax
Media Inc. and Patrick Byrne, former CEO of Overstock.com. The three new
lawsuits are in addition to similar suits Dominion previously filed
against Trump-aligned lawyer Sidney Powell, Fox News, Trump lawyer Rudy
Giuliani and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

"The defendants in today's filings recklessly disregarded the truth when
they spread lies in November and continue to do so today," Dominion CEO
John Poulos said in a prepared statement. "We are filing these three cases
today because the defendants named show no remorse, nor any sign they
intend to stop spreading disinformation. This barrage of lies by the
defendants and others have caused — and continue to cause — severe damage
to our company, customers, and employees. We have no choice but to seek to
hold those responsible to account."

One on-air personality named as a defendant in the new OAN lawsuit is
Christina Bobb, who Arizona Republican senators gave special access to the
review of the Maricopa County election and who also has raised money to
pay for the work.

Bobb was for weeks a fixture at Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, where a
company called Cyber Ninjas led an attempt to recount and analyze about
2.1 million ballots at the behest ofGOP members of the Arizona Senate.

That counting portion of the audit has concluded, but the GOP senators —
and the public at large — still await a report from Cyber Ninjas regarding
their work.

The other defendants in the OAN suit are Chanel Rion, who also is a
personality on the network, CEO Robert Herring and his son, Charles
Herring, the company president.

OAN is owned by the Herring family. Company officials could not
immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
