I have an AR-15 with this designation:

E.A. CO.
KR.SPR.LA.

CAL.223-5.56
MOD: J-15
EA. 039xxx

I can't seem to find this company in the Blue Book. I looked under "Eagle
Arms/Armalite" but they didn't list a "Model J-15."

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It is an Essential Arms made in Krohs Springs Louisiana between 1992-1994. It
is cast and DPMS bought him out and took the inventory. I have not heard of
anyone having any problems with them.

E.A. Co. was "Essential Arms Company, based in Krotz Springs, Louisiana. They
mfg clone AR-15 type receivers before and shortly after the 1994 "Assault
Weapons Ban".

E.A. sold all of its outstanding inventory to D.P.M.S. sometime in '95 or '96.

E.A. was really a company that had an investment in some advanced machine tools
that were used for other endeavors, they probably took another (more
profitable, less problematic, more stable) direction with their equipment
rather than build rifle receivers.

The name is Essential Arms, it was a small company in Krotz Springs La.
They made a few lowers for sure, I have one that is close in serial
number to yours, and it was sold as a part. I don't know what else the
manufactured, but I was told they did build a few from parts. The
machine equipment and the company were sold.

Essential Arms. AFAIK they never made complete guns, only stripped lowers. You
likely have a parts gun.

Wow, I sure have. Some with misdrilled pin holes so the lockwork doesn't work
properly. Some with takedown pin holes mislocated so that some uppers won't
even fit!

It is an Essential Arms. The letters should protrude instead of being
stamped indicating a cast receiver. I think DPMS bought them out years ago.

I had one, pins always coming loose and upper VERY tight on lower
because of incorrect takedown pins, got rid of the dog. so worthless I
gave it away and kept the parts.

For what it's worth, I've been shooting an AR clone with an E.A. lower for
about five years and have had no problems whatsoever.

Me too. I've had mine for about 3 years or so and have no complaints. I
actually liked the fact the upper's pin holes had to be fitted (by me with a
simple round file) to fit. Makes for an nice tight fit.
