I've heard of some black stock Arlington Ordinance M1 Garands for sale.
Does anybody know anything about them? Are they any good?

Steve,

I haven't seen these rifles at any of our gun shows; OGCA is this
weekend and I'll keep a eye open.

I have a feeling that these are the dregs of the AI supplies, as
imports have dried up. I reserve the right to be wrong, but I would
suspect that the stocks are painted crinkle black because they were
hideous in their original state.

Remember, you get what you pay for; but only if you're real lucky.

Regards,

Hello Steve,

I purchased an AO rebuilt M1 5 months ago, and used it weekly for a highpower
league. I was skeptical of AO, but needed a rifle as my DCM M1 didn't arrive
until mid-July.

Outside of a broken firing pin after ~500 rounds, it has served me well. It's
a Winchester receiver that has been rebarreled in .308 (1-12 twist) and mated
to a new birch stock. Looks sharp. Set me back $480 plus tax.

Good luck,

I bought one of these M1 Grands at a gun show about 3 weeks ago. It had
a
new barrel, new wood and a rebuilt gas system. I've had two minor
problems with it so far. First the trigger guard would pop opened when I
fired the gun. I had to take it
to a gunsmith to build up the catch that the trigger guard snaped into.
It
cost me $10 to have that done. The other problem I had was when I fired
the gun
the elevation nob would move a click. I had to replace the elevation nob
to fix the
problem which cost me another $16. Other then these 2 small problems I
have had
no problems. I have fired over 200 round with the gun so far and after
the first clip the gun has preformed with out a flaw except for the two
minor problems I all ready mentioned. I have not had a chance to see how
accurate it realy is because I just replaced the elevation nob this past
weekend. So far I'm very happy with the gun and would recomed buying
one. The reason I bought this gun is that I sent in my application for a
DCM M1 Garand a couple of weeks ago and I what a M1 so I get use to one
and fugure out what type of reloaded ammo worked best in a M1. I going
to the range this weekend and will have a better ideal of how it is
shooting. I'll post a reply on how well it was grouping at a 100 yards
on sunday.

You are sort-of right - they were the last. I just bought ALL that were
left in the U.S.! When I get done with them, they'll have a NEW BARREL,
NEW STOCK and will be in matching condition for under $800 (while they
last!)

If anyone wants one, let me know!

Are you by any chance confusing Arlington Ordnance, a purveyor of
firearms, with Arlington Ordinance which would be a law enacted by a
municipality?

That's still over twice as much as a DCM Garand is going for, and I'll
wager the depot-rebuilt DCM gun is still the better gun in terms of
fit, finish, and overall quality...
